On the "Time Of the End"
“Keep the words secret, and seal up the book until the time of the end” ~Daniel 12:4~
What is the time of the end? The Insight book has this to say:
It is our purpose in this work to provide a summary of events leading up to the time of the end as well as a detailed account of the events to take place during the time of the end. While the prophets of old, and in particular, Daniel, have been given an overview of the events to occur during the time of the end, this work will be providing a much more detailed timeline of events.
We will be revealing the identities of the king of the north and the king of the south in Daniel’s prophecy found in chapter 11 of the book of Daniel, as well as the identity of the disgusting thing and their relationships to one another as well as how the events of Daniel chapter 11 are to unfold. We will also be drawing from Matthew 24 and Revelation 13, as they provide further supporting material. Much of what is in Revelation 13 is not covered in Daniel 11, and vice-versa. Matthew 24, on the other hand, binds those two chapters of the Bible together.
It should be noted here that much of Daniel 11 is not in chronological order. Many verses in that chapter overlap with one another, and the same can be said of Matthew 24 and Revelation 13. Therefore, this work will not be a verse-by-verse commentary on those three chapters of the Bible. Rather, events will be presented in chronological order, with supporting verses cited. However, Appendix B provides a summary of all events contained in Daniel 11, with cited verses in verse order so that the reader can more easily and visually piece together the prophecy of that chapter.
An historical background of events leading up to modern times as an initial fulfillment of prophecies will be reviewed for the purpose of drawing parallels to the greater fulfillment of prophecy during the time of the end. For this purpose, we will be referencing Robert King’s work extensively. By way of introduction, King has been a vessel that Jehovah has used to lay the foundation and ground work for this new material.
To make it clear from the outset, the writers of this work are not the originators of the work. We are merely vessels through which Jehovah, the rightful Sovereign of the Universe, has seen fit to provide this new material to the world. We are grateful to be used in such a way and consider it a privilege to be able to serve our God in this manner.
Now we address a puzzle concerning the scripture quoted in the subtitle above (Daniel 12:4). First of all, what exactly does it mean that the words are to be ‘kept secret’ and that the book is to be ‘sealed up’ until the time of the end? Surely the book of Daniel has not literally been kept secret or sealed up.
The Insight volumes quote Thomas Scott, stating, “’The angel, by way of conclusion, intimated to Daniel, that this prophecy would remain obscure as “a sealed book,” of which little would be understood.’” (, p. 1103) The obvious question is this: if, the prophecy is to remain obscure until the time of the end, are we currently living in the time of the end, since the interpretation is now being revealed? The answer is no, the time of the end is not yet upon us. So how are we to understand this?
We might ask the question, “to whom is the interpretation of the prophecy to remain obscure?” A few verses down, Daniel 12:9 relates a similar sentiment: “The words are to be kept secret and sealed up till the time of the end.” In the very next verse, it provides us with an answer to the question just posed, by saying “none of the wicked ones will understand, but those having insight will understand.” In other words, those who are wicked and reject Jehovah’s Word, will not understand the prophecy (although they imagine that they do understand it), but those who are given insight do understand it. As it states, the wicked will continue in their ignorance until the time of the end, when the events laid out in this work are to occur and they see first-hand the true fulfillment of the prophecy of Daniel, and then “they will have to know that I am Jehovah.” (Ezekiel 24:27)
It should be noted that it has always been Jehovah’s intention to reveal the information contained in this work to all the people of the earth. As Daniel 12:4b states, “Many will rove about, and the true knowledge will become abundant.” Jehovah wants the people of the earth to draw close to him (James 4:8), but in order to do that, we need to know about him. To that end, “the earth will certainly be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9)
On Prophetic Time Periods
And from the time that the constant feature [or “the continual sacrifice”] has been removed and the disgusting thing that causes desolation has been put in place, there will be 1,290 days.
Happy is the one who keeps in expectation and who arrives at the 1,335 days!
We know this portion of Daniel is speaking about the time of the end because Daniel 12:9 tells us that “the words are to be kept secret until the time of the end.” We also know that the time of the end is going to be a period of distress for the human race (Daniel 12:1). Therefore, those who are happy must be the ones who arrived at the period of restoration that is to occur after the time of the end (Revelation 21:1-7). This means that the entire span of time that is referred to as “the time of the end” lasts for 1,335 days in total, but what events mark the beginning and end of that time period?
The time of the end begins with the establishment of God’s kingdom in heaven, and the subsequent ouster of Satan from heaven, which results in woes for the earth. It culminates with the battle of Armageddon and the banishment of Satan to the abyss, at which point the restoration of the earth will begin (Revelation 12:7-12; 19:19-20:3; 21:1-7). In other words, from the establishment of the kingdom in heaven to the end of Armageddon, there will be 1,335 days, known as “the time of the end.”
But what about the 1,290 days? It says that “from the time that the constant feature has been removed and the disgusting thing that causes desolation has been put in place, there will be 1,290 days.”2 This means that from the point that the disgusting thing is put into place to the end of Armageddon, there will be 1,290 days. This also means that from the beginning of the time of the end to the time when the disgusting thing is put into place, there will be 45 days (1,335 days – 1,290 days).
Revelation 11:2, 3
The third significant time period is found at Revelation 11:2, 3, which states “But as for the courtyard that is outside the temple sanctuary, leave it out and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations, and they will trample the holy city underfoot for 42 months. I will cause my two witnesses to prophecy for 1,260 days dressed in sackcloth.” The two time periods mentioned here (42 months and 1,260 days) both refer to the same time period. How can we be sure of that?
First of all, we know that 42 months is 3½ years, but what about the 1,260 days? In Revelation 12:6 it also speaks of 1,260 days, saying “they would feed [the woman] for 1,260 days.” Later on at Revelation 12:14, it states “[the woman] is to be fed for a time and times and half a time,” or, 3½ times. What do these “times represent?
The 3½ times are also mentioned back at Daniel 12:7. In response to the question, “How long will it be to the end of these marvelous things?” (Daniel 12:6) The response given back is, “It will be for an appointed time, appointed times, and half a time. As soon as the dashing to pieces of the power of the holy people comes to an end, all these things will come to their finish.” (Daniel 12:7) This is similar to the account at Luke 21:20-24.
“However, when you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near. Then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains, let those in the midst of her leave, and let those in the countryside not enter into her, because these are days for meting out justice in order that all the things written may be fulfilled. Woe to the pregnant women and those nursing a baby in those days! For there will be great distress on the land and wrath against this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.
The “appointed times of the nations” spoken of in the above verse is the same “appointed time, appointed times, and half a time [3½ times]” of Daniel 12:7. Luke 21:24 speaks of Jerusalem (the holy city) being trampled on by the nations, which is exactly what Revelation 11:2 says will occur for a period of 3½ years (that is, 42 months). Therefore, a prophetic “time” is equal to one year. Thus, going back to Revelation 12:6, 14, we can see that 3½ prophetic “years” is equal to 1,260 days.
Notice that after the two witnesses have finished prophesying for 1,260 days, the wild beast ascends out of the abyss and kills them. They then remain dead for 3½ days and are then resurrected up to heaven (Revelation 11:7; 12:3, 7, 9, 11, 12). Thus, the two witnesses represent anointed Christians3 still on earth at that time.4 That they will be killed is confirmed at Daniel 12:7, where it mentions the “dashing to pieces of the power of the holy people” coming to its end at the end of the 3½ times.
In short, the 42 months, 3½ times (years), and the 1,260 days all refer to the same thing. Once the kingdom of God is established and Satan is ousted from heaven, the 3½ years is the time allotted for the nations to continue on independently from Christ’s rule. This is known as “the appointed times of the nations” (Luke 21:24). During this time, Satan, in his rage, attacks God’s people and goes so far as to kill God’s anointed servants on earth. (Revelation 11:7; 12:13, 15, 17).5 It is this killing off of anointed Christians that will initiate Jehovah’s judgment against Satan’s earthly system of governments (Mathew 24:22).
It should be noted here that, while God’s true people are to be attacked, the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which had been an instrument Jehovah has used to bring light to the world, will also be attacked. This attack corresponds to “the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken about by Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place” (Matthew 24:25). This is an allowance by Jehovah. Just as Babylon was placed in a special position by Jehovah’s allowance of the nation to take his people captive (See the subheading “A Succession of World Powers”), and Babylon was thus God’s tool to punish his wayward people, so too will the disgusting thing be Jehovah’s tool for punishing his erring people in our day. But the disgusting thing is not just a tool of punishment, it is also a tool of refinement, for the warning was given to “begin fleeing Judea” when one catches sight of the disgusting thing (Matthew 24:15). Those who obey this command and remain faithful will be guided to God’s true congregation on earth at that time. Thus, this scenario, which takes place during the 42 months, represents, not a judgment on the nations, which begins at the start of the day of Jehovah, but represents a judgment on God’s house. As Robert King is fond of saying, “judgment begins with the house of God” (, p. 436) (1 Peter 4:17).
Thus, if the appointed times of the nations begins at the establishment of the kingdom, at the start of the time of the end, and lasts for 1,260 days, that means that after Jehovah cuts short those days, the day of Jehovah begins, which initiates God’s judgment on the nations and this system of things, and culminates with the battle of Armageddon. This time interval after the appointed times of the nations have ended until the end of Armageddon will last for 75 days (1,335 days – 1,260 days)
In conclusion, the sequence of events during the time of the end, from start to finish occurs as follows:
- Day 0: The kingdom of God is established, Satan is ousted from heaven, and the appointed times of the nations begins
- Day 45: The constant feature is removed and the disgusting thing is put into place
- Day 1,260: The appointed times of the nations ends, God’s judgment on Satan’s system begins (the day of Jehovah)
- Day 1,335: Armageddon is over, Satan has been cast into the abyss, and those remaining on earth begin the restoration of the earth to paradise.

The Kings of the North and South
The prophecy in the 11th chapter of Daniel, concerning the struggle between the king of the north and king of the south is lengthy and detailed. Rather than relaying information in chronological order, the vision in this portion of the Bible given to Daniel is relayed in a series of stories that relay various details about the struggle over time. The first objective in understanding these events is to understand who the kings of the north and south are.
The modern-day kings of the north and south are identified by their ideologies, but this was not always the case. The original kings of the north and south were ancient Egypt and Assyria. These two nations did not necessarily share the same ideologies that mark the modern two kings. So what is the connection between the ancient and modern kings of the north and south? That is the subject matter of this heading.
A succession of World Powers
Or, On The Ideologies of the Kings of the North and South
The 13th chapter of Revelation describes “a wild beast ascending out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns ten diadem.” (Revelation 13:1) It describes the beast, saying that it “was like a leopard, but its feet were like those of a bear, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth.” (Revelation 13:2) A leopard, a bear, and a lion: these describe the first three of the four wild beasts that Daniel saw in a dream (Daniel 7:1-7). These four beasts, as Daniel mentions, “are four kings who will stand up from the earth.” (Daniel 7:17) So this beast, and more specifically, each of its seven heads, represent world powers, or “kings.” Revelation 17:9, 10 confirm this by saying, “the seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top. And there are seven kings: Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet arrived: but when he does, he must remain a short while.”
As the Watchtower points out, the succession of world powers from ancient times to now have proven to be Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and the Anglo-American dual world power. The last five of these are represented in the image of a dream that occurred to Nebuchadnezzar, described at Daniel 2:31-34.
Babylon, whose king at the time was Nebuchadnezzar, was represented as the head of gold (Daniel 2:37, 38). Gold, being precious metal, represented the fact that not only was Nebuchadnezzar allowed, by Jehovah, to become a world power but also that he had permission to overthrow and take captive the nation of Judah (2 Kings 25:1-21). Thus Babylon and its king, Nebuchadnezzar was in a privileged position among the kings of the world. (, p. 1186)
Medo-Persia, represented by the chest and arms of silver, conquered Babylon in 539 B.C.E. Note that silver is less precious than gold; similarly, Medo-Persia was inferior to Babylon. Although still a formidable, dominant world power, it was inferior in the sense that it did not occupy the same position that Babylon did as Judah’s captor. (, p. 1186)
Next in the succession of world power came Greece. In 331 B.C.E, Alexander the Great of Greece conquered Medo-Persia. (, p. 1186) Greece is represented by the soft copper torso. This soft metal represents the soft, democratic form of rule instituted by Greece, and contrasts with the hard Iron legs that represent the next world power, Rome. Unlike imperialist regimes wherein the aristocracy view “lower” people as existing for the sole purpose of serving them, the softer Grecian form of rule allowed and encouraged poetry, art, literature, science, math, and philosophy to flourish among the people. (, p. 1186)
Unlike the soft, Grecian form of government, Roman rule was harsh and imperialistic. Roman armies invaded and conquered all the surrounding nations, including Greece. This harsh form of rule is represented by the hard iron legs. (, p. 1186)
Unlike the empires of the past, the Roman Empire was not conquered. Instead, it began to be broken up. The Watchtower gives us this commentary:
Britain was once a northwest part of the Roman Empire. But by the year 1773, it had become the British Empire—the Britannia that ruled the seven seas. By 1776 its 13 American colonies had declared their independence in order to set up the United States of America. In later years, however, Britain and the United States became partners in both war and peace. Thus, the Anglo-American combination came into existence as the seventh world power of Bible Prophecy. (, p. 57)
The Watchtower’s commentary on Daniel goes on to say that the Anglo-American world power exercised “ironlike authority” thus implying that it was also represented by the legs of Iron. However, in a later revision of their interpretation of prophecy, the Watchtower corrects itself and rightfully identifies the Anglo-America world power as the feet of iron and clay.6 The iron continues to represent imperialism, in the form of the British Empire7 and the soft clay represents the softer, republican system of America that grew out of Greece’s then-novel notion of democracy. Daniel 11:43 states: “Just as you saw iron mixed with soft clay, they will be mixed with the people.” In other words, the democratic or republican form of government is a form of government in which the people have more of a say in the running of their country.
The modern kings of the north and south represent, not specific governments or kings, but ideologies. As various governmental world powers fall into specific ideologies, they fulfill the roles of the kings of the north and south.
The softer, democratic and republican forms of government represent the king of the south in modern times, and the harder, imperialist forms of government, such as oligarchies and monarchies, represent the king of the north in modern times. King confirms that the kings of the north and south represent imperialism and democracy, respectively and also correspond to the iron and clay feet of the image in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, stating that the “striving of two competing kings is in harmony with what is also revealed in Daniel concerning the struggle between the kings of the north and south—as well as the incompatible iron and clay amalgam that do not stick together. It perfectly symbolizes the modern Anglo-American dual world power, which is an unnatural union of imperialism and republicanism.” (, p. 470)
But to understand why they are called the kings of the north and south, we must first look at the original kings of the north and south, Egypt and Assyria.
Egypt and Assyria
On the Relative Positions of Power of the Kings of the North and South
Although many of Assyria’s policies were harsh and reminiscence of the modern king of the north. The same connection cannot be made between Egypt and the modern king of the south, and yet Daniel draws a connection between the two (Daniel 11:6-9). Why is this?
Although, as mentioned in the previous section, the modern kings of the north and south are identified by their ideologies, the same cannot be said for Egypt and Assyria, the original kings of the south and north. Egypt was the king of the south because it was literally located south of Judah. The same can be said for Assyria in the north. The fact that these two entities are associated with the modern kings of the north and south have more to do with their power struggles, in terms of who is to come out victorious than with ideologies. In other words, the power struggles between the modern kings of the north and south, described in Daniel chapter 11, have many parallels to those of Egypt and Assyria.
As mentioned above, Daniel 11:8 specifically identifies Egypt with the king of the south, saying “he [the king of the north] will come to Egypt. For some years he [Egypt, the king of the south] will stand off from the king of the north.” Daniel 11:9 confirms this by saying “[the king of the north] will come against the kingdom of the king of the south, but will go back to his own land” This verse applies to both Egypt and Assyria as well as the modern kings of the north and south.
The Insight volumes has this to say under the heading “Egypt, Egyptian” and the subheading “Assyrian invasion:”
Ashurbanipal, Assyria’s last king, renewed the assault [by Assyrian King Esar-haddon on Egypt] and sacked the city of Thebes (Biblical No-amon) in Upper Egypt, where Egypt’s greatest temple treasures were located. […] Assyrian garrisons were later pulled back from Egypt, and the country began to recover some of its earlier prosperity and power. When Assyria fell to the Medes and Babylonians, Egypt had gained sufficient strength (with the support of mercenary troops) to come to the aid of the Assyrian king (, pp. 697-698)
This invasion and subsequent pulling back of Assyrian forces has two parallels in modern times. The initial parallel corresponding to the account at Daniel 11:8, 9 as mentioned above, occurred during the revolutionary war, when Britain, the king of the north, tried to bring the American colonies back under British control. In the end, the colonies won and the king of the south ‘stood off from the king of the north’ (Daniel 11:9). As quoted above from the Insight books, the modern-day Egypt (America) began to recover some of its power and later came to the aid of Britain and eventually went so far as to become Britain’s ally.
And he [the king of the north] will muster his power and his heart against the king of the south with a large army, and the king of the south will prepare himself for the war with an exceedingly large and mighty army. And he [the king of the south] will not stand because they will plot schemes against him.
This verse refers to the fact that, during the time of the end, the king of the north is to come against the king of the south and prevail, eventually becoming a world-wide government. This is exactly what happened between Egypt and Assyria, Assyria replaced Egypt as a world power. In a similar sense, the king of the north, which, as we shall also see below, is embodied in an informal financial oligarchy that is centered in London8, shall overtake America in the wake of a world-encompassing financial collapse. (See the subheading below, entitled “The Ultimate Fulfillment of Prophecy”)
In addition to this parallel, the account in the Insight books states, “Nechoh removed Josiah’s son and successor Jehoahaz from the Judean throne and replaced him with his brother Eliakim (renamed Jehoiakim) […] Judah was now a tributary to Egypt.” (, pp. 698) As described below, this series of events parallels modern fulfillment of prophecies concerning the disgusting thing at Daniel 11:31 and the man of lawlessness (see the heading “The UN and the King of the North” below).
In conclusion, the assignment of the terms “king of the north” and king of the south” to modern imperialism and republicanism today have more to do with their power struggles and relative positions of power as it relates to Egypt and Assyria, rather than by their ideologies, despite the fact that their ideologies are what identify the kings of the north and south today.
An Initial Fulfillment of Prophecy
On Robert King's Inisght into Daniel 11:20-24
As stated above, it is our intention to provide insight into the time of the end, and specifically, the information that has been provided to us through Daniel 11, Matthew 24, and Revelation 13. As the angel mentioned, this information would be “kept secret and sealed up until the time of the end” (Daniel 12:9); however, it is now being revealed to us.
Before we delve into the time of the end, it is beneficial to gain an understanding of a specific portion of prophecy, namely, Daniel 11:20-24, and how its initial fulfillment, which is now in the past, parallels with the ultimate fulfillment of prophecy in general during the time of the end. To that end, we first present the initial fulfillment of those verses, as it has been provided to us by Jehovah, through his servant, Robert King.9
And there will stand up in his place one who causes an exactor to pass through the splendid kingdom, but in a few days he will be broken, though not in anger nor in warfare—Daniel 11:20
The Watchtower has this to say on this verse: “‘The splendid kingdom’ of Augustus included ‘the land of the Decoration’—the Roman province of Judea. (Daniel 11:16) In 2 B.C.E., Augustus send out ‘an exactor’ by ordering a registration, or census, probably so that he could learn the number of the population for purposes of taxation and military conscription. […] In august 14 C.E.—‘in a few days,’ or not long after decreeing the registration—Augustus died at the age of 76, neither ‘in anger’ at an assassin’s hands not ‘in warfare,’ but as a result of illness. The king of the north had changed identity! This king had now become the Roman Empire in the person of its emperors.” (, p. 233) King mentions in his book that he agrees with this interpretation of the verse, citing that indeed, this portion of the prophecy is fulfilled in Augustus Caesar. (, p. 206)
And there will stand up in his position a despised one, and they will not give him the majesty of the kingdom; and he will come in during a time of security and take hold of the kingdom by means of smoothness—Daniel 11:21
Both the Watchtower and King agree that the “despised one” is Augustus’ successor, Tiberius Caesar, with one glaring point of contention between them.
The Watchtower states that Augustus adopted him to be their heir of the Roman Empire “only after all other likely successors were dead,” and that thus “‘the dignity of the kingdom’ was unwillingly bestowed upon him.” (, p. 234) It also states that Tiberius did not accept the title of emperor until a month after Augustus was dead. The commentary notes that Tiberius made the suggestion of re-instituting a republic-based form of government with the Roman senate in charge, and that it was not until after a month of wrangling with the senate that Tiberius finally accepted the title of emperor, thus ‘taking hold of the kingdom by means of smoothness.’ (, pp. 234-235)
While the Watchtower seems to suggest that it was the majesty of the Roman Empire which was unwillingly bestowed upon Tiberius, King has a distinctly insightful departure from this interpretation. King notes:
Perhaps, though, it was the dignity [majesty] of the Judean kingdom that was not set upon Tiberius; for the reason that the Jews despised their Roman occupiers—including Pontius Pilate—Tiberius’ appointed governor of Jerusalem. Jewish history records several incidents where Pilate greatly offended Jewish religious sensibilities. After all, the previous verse in context made reference to ‘the splendid kingdom’ of David.
In this regard, consider how on one occasion Pilate nearly caused an insurrection when he placed Roman ensigns in Jerusalem—reminders of Rome’s loathed imperial presence. The Jews, however, defied Pilate’s authority, not conferring upon him the dignity of his position as Tiberius’ appointee and demanded that the ensigns be removed from the holy city. Pilate ordered his soldiers to surround the Jews, but they stood their ground; even at the risk of execution, so that Pilate was forced to remove the ensigns (, pp. 206-207)
King goes on to cite another example: “Pilate hung some armory shields in the temple in honor of the emperor. The Jews again took offense and petitioned Tiberius; who ordered that the offending shields be removed. So, in this way, Tiberius may have ingratiated himself to the Jews—taking ‘hold of the kingdom by means of smoothness.’ By the time of Christ’s execution the leaders of the Jewish kingdom expressed their complete allegiance to Tiberius with the following world: ‘We have no king but Caesar!’” (, p. 207)
As we shall see, Tiberius’ taking hold of the Judean kingdom “by means of smoothness” is an important portent of events to come (see the subheading below, “The UN and Jehovah's Witness.”
And the arms of the flood will be swept away on account of him, and they will be broken; as will be the Leader of the covenant.—Daniel 11:22
This is the point in the prophecy of Daniel where the Watchtower’s commentary seems to get sidetracked. The Watchtower attributes “the arms of the flood” to the surrounding nations of Rome, and in particular, Germany, and that it was Germany that was “swept away,” or “flooded over,” as the older edition of the New World Translation puts it. (, p. 236)
And the people of a leader who is coming will destroy the city and the holy place. And its end will be by the flood. And until the end there will be war; what is decided upon is desolations.
And he will keep the covenant in force for the many for one week. […]
The first part of verse 26 talks about the Messiah being cut of, and so Robert interprets the second part to mean that the leader of the covenant is Jesus. (, p. 208) This may be true as an initial fulfillment, along with his interpretation that the arms of the flood were the Roman armies and that the “they” who were swept away and broken were the inhabitants of the holy place, Jerusalem. But it seems that King has missed an important piece of information. If the “people of a leader” are coming to destroy the city, is it plausible that the leader that is being talked about is Jesus? Did Jesus’ disciples destroy the holy city back in the 1st century?
This confusion on the part of King is understandable, considering that at the time of writing his book, the 2013 revision of the New World Translation was not yet available. The wording of the verse in the translation that King used reads, “And the city and the holy place the people of a leader that is coming will bring to their ruin.” The lack of punctuation in this translation makes this sentence clunky and confusing. However, one thing to note is that, even in the old edition of the NWT, it says “will bring to their ruin,” it does not say “will be brought to their ruin.” Thus King’s tendency to gloss over subtle details has, in this case, caused him to miss something important. Namely, that the “people of a leader”, who bring the holy city to ruin is proved to be the Roman armies in the first century.
The question is then, “Is the leader of Daniel 9:26 and the leader of the covenant at Daniel 11:22 the same?” The answer depends on what covenant Daniel 11:22 is referring to. King’s interpretation that it is Jesus, who is the leader of the new covenant between God and his people, who was broken in the 1st century seems very plausible. However, this raises a question: if Jesus is the leader of the covenant in the final fulfillment of the prophecy, then how is it that Jesus will be broken during the time of the end? The answer is that obviously, he cannot be. The covenant, therefore, and also the leader of the covenant in the final fulfillment of prophecy must refer to something else. See the subheading “The Great Tribulation” for more details about who this is referring to.
The Rise of Apostate Christianity
And because of their alliance with him, he will carry on deception and rise up and become mighty by means of a little nation.—Daniel 11:23
The Watchtower’s absurd interpretation of this prophecy assigns the “little nation” to the Roman Praetorian Guard. (, p. 238) On the other hand, since, according to King, “they” who are swept away in verse 22 are the inhabitants of Jerusalem, King notes that “their alliance with him” must be alluding to the alliance between the Jews and the Roman Empire. He also notes that this alliance isn’t merely an alliance between the Jewish nation of Israel and the Roman Empire. King has this to say on the subject (, pp. 209-210):
After the death of the apostles Christianity gradually became more and more corrupt. Eventually, even though Christians only composed about 10% of the total population living under Roman rule in the fourth century, Emperor Constantine made “Christianity” the state religion. Hence, Christendom was born.
By those means the Roman Empire was poised to “become mighty by means of a little nation”—the “little nation” that sprang from the Israel of God. And by means of false Christians “allying themselves with him,” the king of the north was able to “carry on deception.” Think of it—by Constantine making apostate Christianity the official religion, the emperor of Rome, the king of the north, became the titular head of what had been Christ’s congregation. And what far-reaching effects that deceptive alliance has had! To this day, hundreds of millions of Catholics, Protestants, and members of Orthodox churches and the countless sects and cults that fall in between, are under the false doctrinal system of worship first instituted by Emperor Constantine’s Council of Nicea. (, p. 210)
As we shall see, this point, too, has a very important parallel during the time of the end, particularly for Jehovah’s Witnesses (for more information on this parallel, refer to the subheading "The UN and Jehovah's Witnesses").
During a time of security he will come into the richest parts of the province and do what his fathers and their fathers have not done. Plunder and spoil and goods he will distribute among them; and against fortified places he will plot his schemes, but only for a time.—Daniel 11:24
The Watchtower’s interpretation of this verse is so far off course, that it is now completely irrelevant; however we present it here for completeness. The watchtower suggests that through legal and economic reforms, Tiberius distributed “plunder and spoil and goods” among the people. Although the name of the subheading that this information is under in the Watchtower’s commentary is entitled, “A Tyrant ‘Schemes out His Schemes,’” only two sentences are dedicated to that part of the prophecy, which state that Tiberius became a hypocrite and tyrant by the end of his lifetime. (, pp. 238-239)
King’s interpretation of this verse flows naturally from his interpretation of the previous verse. “Prior to Constantine Christians were periodically banned and persecuted by the Roman emperors. By making Christianity the state-sponsored religion, Christians entered into a period appropriately described by the prophecy of Daniel as a ‘freedom from care’ [or time of security].” Through the pontificate, the popes replaced the Roman emperors, and the king of the north was able to control both European civilization as well as Christianity, thus doing what the Caesars (“his fathers and their fathers”) had not been able to do. King also states that through the feudal system and imperial crusades of the Dark and Middle Ages, the king of the north distributed “plunder and spoil and goods.”
The Scrolls Unsealed
Daniel 11, Matthew 24, and Revelation 13
It is at this point that we get into the heart and purpose of this work. Everything presented up to this point is a backdrop for what is to follow. We will begin with a little history of the modern-day king of the north and south as it pertains to the events leading up to the time of the end, and then we shall delve into that mysterious time period that people throughout history have tried to understand, but which is only now being revealed to the world by Jehovah, through the writers of this work.
Events Preceding the Time of the End
The Creation of the Modern King of the South
As discussed in the subheading, “The kings of the North and South,” the modern identity of the king of the north is the imperialist system that began to take place in Britain, and has since evolved into an informal financial oligarchy centered in London.
The modern day king of the south is identified with the more democratic and socialist systems, which originated in Greece. Today, we refer to this system as the “western world.” A more modern start of the current king of the south began in 1607 with the establishment of the first American colony in Jamestown, Virginia. Daniel described the exodus to America when he wrote, “Also with their gods, with their metal images, with their desirable articles of silver and of gold, and with captives, he will come to Egypt.” (Daniel 11:8) Those who were to become the king of the south, ‘came’ to “Egypt” (see the subheading “Egypt and Assyria”) in two ways. First, the colonists came to Egypt in the sense that they literally crossed over the ocean and into the land that was eventually to become known as America, bringing with them their “desirable things.” The more profound application of this part of the verse, however, has to do with the fact that colonists came to Egypt in the sense that at that time, they stepped into the role of the king of the south.
The second part of Daniel 11:8, as well as the surrounding verses (7 and 9) foretell the American War for Independence, also termed the Revolutionary War. It was during this time that America stood “off from the king of the north.” As described in verse 9, when America won the war, the king of the north went “back to his own land.”
The Growth of America and the Formation of an Alliance
As foretold by Daniel, after the revolutionary war, America continue to grow, both in territory and in power (Daniel 11:5a). Here Daniel refers to America as the “daughter” of the king of the south. This emphasizes the fact that democracy/republicanism did not originate with America, but with Greece. In this sense, then, the American system was inherited from Greece, the original Christian-era king of the south. Fast-forward a few centuries, and America has become arguably the strongest government ever to exist.
Despite its strength, America, the king of the south, is not, in itself, described in the Bible as a world power. This is because another entity exists that controls half the world: the financial oligarchy that had its second start in Great Britain10, and was eventually brought over into America in the form of Wall-Street.
The real current world power, therefore, is not embodied by a single government, but in an alliance that is referred to as the Anglo-American world power. Daniel refers to this both as an “alliance” and an “equitable arrangement” (Daniel 11:6a). As mentioned in the subheading “A Succession of World Powers,” this world power was symbolized by the feet of iron and clay of an image that Nebuchadnezzar saw in a dream (Daniel 2:42, 43)
Attack and Counter-Attack
And the king of the south will become bitter and will go out and fight with him, that is, with the king of the north; and he will muster a large crowd, but the crowd will be given into that one’s hands. And the crowd will be carried away. His heart will become exalted, and he will cause tens of thousands to fall; but he will not make use of his strong position.—Daniel 11:11, 12
In order to understand what these verses are talking about, it is critical to realize that Daniel did not put the events of these verses, or, more specifically, of verse 11, in chronological order. Daniel 11:11 is more a description of the state of affairs rather than a chronological listing of events. Nonetheless, these two verses do foretell a specific series of events in recent history. Namely, the verses foretell the 9/11 attacks and the repercussions of those attacks.
Suffice it to say, the attacks were orchestrated by the king of the north, the financial oligarchy, who sponsored the terrorists. For more details about this, and the reason behind their funding the 9/11 attacks, refer to Appendix C. It is in this way that the king of the north mustered a “large crowd” of terrorists (as explained in Appendix C, the oligarchy has funded more than just the 9/11 attacks. Other groups, such as ISIS have been used by the oligarchy to pressure America into giving into their greed).
It is in response to the 9/11 attacks that America became bitter, and went out to fight with the king of the north by invading Afghanistan and Iraq, and the crowd that the king of the north mustered was given into the hands of the king of the south, when America became victorious in those two wars. After that victory, America’s “heart” became exalted, but the king of the south did not make use of its strong position. Instead of staying in the Middle East to ensure stability before leaving, America pulled its troops out before such stability was obtained. Granted, America helped Iraq build a government and train its military, but it left before it could ensure that the newly formed government had the ability to maintain its position.
In the time of the end the king of the south will engage with him in a pushing--Daniel 11:40a
The attacks on America orchestrated by the king of the north are not limited to violent encounters. In fact, the more devious scheme of the financial oligarchy is to engineer a financial collapse. The first tremors of that financial collapse were felt only 7 years after the 9/11 attacks in 2008 when the market plummeted and credit and mortgage bubbles began bursting. This also was foretold by Daniel:
As for his sons, they will prepare for war and assemble a vast, great army. He will certainly advance and sweep through like a flood. But he will go back and wage war all the way to his fortress.—Daniel 11:10
Although the vast, great army here could be referring to the same army mentioned in verses 11 and 12, the key here is the fact that the king of the north wages war “all the way to his fortress.”11 As mentioned several times throughout this paper, the fortress of the king of the north represents the king’s security, which is embodied in the king’s money and resources. Thus, in the sense that the financial collapse of 2008 rocked wall-street, we can say that the king of the north waged war “all the way to his fortress.”
In response to the financial scare of 2008, socialist agendas, such as tighter restrictions on banks and big corporations, have been pushed through legislation and made their way into law. This is the “pushing” that is described in Daniel 11:40a.12
A Crowd Larger Than the Fist
And the king of the north will return and muster a crowd larger than the first--Daniel 11:13a
As mentioned above, the financial collapse of 2008 was only an initial tremor of what is to come. The king of the north, that is, the financial oligarchy, is planning on taking down the entire system in order to become the 8th and final king. Daniel 11:2 confirms that the king of the north will use his financial status to bring down his opponent. That verse states that the king of the north “will amass greater riches than all others. And when he becomes strong by means of his riches, he will rouse up everything against the kingdom of Greece.”13 In addition to this, the king of the north is amassing “a large crowd, larger than the first.” (Daniel 11:13a) The second part of Daniel 11:13 talks about coming (into America) with a large army and many resources. It should be noted that the king of the north does not literally enter into America until after the financial system has collapse, leaving the nation, and indeed all nations, crippled, since they cannot afford to maintain law enforcement or the military.
The Time of the End
Note that the timeline of this paper if broken up into four time periods. The first time period, discussed under the previous subheading, “Period 1,” is, as the subtitle suggests ("Events Preceding the Time of the End"), the time period preceding the time of the end. Period 2 begins with the establishment of God’s kingdom in heaven and the subsequent hurling of the great dragon (Satan) from heaven to the earth, after which, the dragon vents his wrath upon the earth by establishing a totalitarian regime (Revelation 12:7-10, 12, 13, 15, 17). This regime begins with the rising to power of the king of the north. See Appendices A and B for more details about these four time periods, and see Appendix E for more information about the woman and her offspring in the verses of Revelation 12 just cited.
And a mighty king will stand up and rule with extensive dominion and do as he pleases—Daniel 11:3
The verse cited in the subtitle of this section (Daniel 11:3), along with Daniel 11:5b, which states “One will prevail against [the king of the south] and rule with extensive dominion,” both foretell the rise to power of the king of the north into the position of the 8th king. Daniel 11:6b14 reaffirms this by saying “she will not retain the power of her arm,” “she” referring to the “daughter of the king of the south,” which in turn refers to America (see the subheading “The Growth of America and the Formation of an Alliance” for an explanation of why America is called the “daughter of the king of the south”).
The rising of power of the king of the north comes on the heels of the financial collapse of the nations. As discussed above, and in Appendix C, the current goal of the king of the north, that is, the financial oligarchy, is to amass riches. These riches are not limited to money that is tied to governments. After all, when the financial collapse occurs, nation-based money will be worthless. Instead, the financial oligarchy is interested in gathering resources, such as precious metals (gold, silver, etc) as well as what is arguably the most valuable resource in the world, oil. Oil is valuable to the king of the north because, unlike precious metals, which may or may not have more trivial uses, nations are actually dependent on oil to generate electricity. This will put the king of the north in a position to enable nations to continue functioning, or not, by either giving or withholding oil. Thus, by going after these resources and engineering a financial collapse, the king of the north is setting the stage to enslave the entire world and make it so that all nations are entirely dependent on him for their continued survival. The financial oligarchy will even be in control of the food supply since farmers and meat processing companies rely on oil and electricity to continue operating their machinery.
Matthew 24:6-8 illustrated the severity of the situation:
You are going to hear of wars and reports of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for these things must take place, but the end is not yet.
For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress.
In the wake of the financial collapse, prior to the king of the north coming into full power, fighting between nations and people will occur in response to the resulting power vacuum. This is the “beginning of pangs of distress.” In fact, this event is the precursor to the “great tribulation.”15
The collapse of the system will be so severe that Revelation 13:3 refers to it as a fatal, or mortal, wound to the wild beast. In other words, the entire system will be put to death. However, when the king of the north comes back, the king of the north having been a part of the seventh head of the wild beast (the Anglo-American dual world power), it will be as if “its mortal wound had been healed” (Revelation 13:3). With this event, the king of the north steps into the role of the 8th king.
Invasion of America
In the subheading “A Crowd Larger than the First,” we discussed how the king of the north is amassing a large army in preparation for his invasion of America, and we cited Daniel 11:13a as a verse that foretells this event. The second part of that verse describes what he intends to do with that army, or “crowd.” It states, “At the end of the times, after some years, he will surely come with a large army.” Where exactly is the king of the north “coming” to? Verse 15 gives us the answer:
And the king of the north will come and throw up a siege rampart and capture a fortified city. And the arms of the south will not stand, nor will his select men; and they will have no power to stand.
The “fortified city” refers to America, which is fortified by oceans on both sides. So what does the king of the north do in response to this “fortification?” He throws up a “siege rampart.” A siege rampart literally refers to a rampart (a mound or ramp) that goes up to a wall or fortification for the purpose of bringing in equipment with which to lay siege to the city. In this case, since the “fortification” is actually two oceans, the “siege rampart” refers to ships, which will carry equipment and armies to lay siege to America. Since this occurs after the financial collapse, America’s government will have already collapsed, and her “select men,” or government officials, will have no power, since there is no money to continue funding the military.
Daniel 11:14 gives us a bit more insight into the motives of the king of the north:
In those times many will stand up against the king of the south.
And the violent ones among your people will be carried along to try making a vision come true, but they will stumble.
The footnote in the New World Translation for “violent ones,” says “or, ‘the sons of the robbers.’” The “sons of the robbers” are those who inherited the money from the original financial oligarchy, back when the financial oligarchy was embodied in the formal British Empire. (See Appendix C for more information about the modern financial oligarchy). Hence, those who are in control of the informal financial empire now are interested in “making a vision come true.” That vision is the preservation of their wealth and power. But ultimately, they will fail in that endeavor, as we shall see, when they are defeated by another entity.
Despite the fact that there is no money to continue funding the US military, there will certainly be those who continue to remain loyal to America. Daniel 11:25 confirms this by saying that the king of the south will muster an “exceedingly large and mighty army” to fight against the king of the north. But, as a result of the nations weakened condition (as a result of the king of the north’s “schemes” mentioned in the same verse), it says the king of the south “will not stand.”
Verse 26 goes on to elaborate: “And those eating his delicacies will bring his downfall. As for his army, it will be swept away, and many will fall down slain.” In other words, since the military, who had been eating the “delicacies” of America (that is, they were being financed by the American government), will betray their country once the king of the north displays his ability to support them. Thus, the allegiance of the military will go to the king of the north (those who continue to fight, and are steadfast in their allegiance to America, as the verse says, “will be swept away,” and “fall down slain”).
Daniel 11:6d confirms this betrayal by saying, “she will be given up, she and those bringing her in, and the one who caused her birth and the one making her strong in those times.” Those who “caused her birth,” and the ones “bringing her in,” and “making her strong,” are the leaders of America at that time.
The UN and the King of the North
Once America’s army has been “swept away” (Daniel 11:26), the king of the north will see an opportunity in America. The United Nations happens to be headquartered in New York. Thus, as a representative of a coalition of “free” nations (nations that were once under the wing of the king of the south), the king of the north will decide that it might be useful to employ the UN as a tactic to win over the nations. With America out of the way, the UN could be seen as a representative of the king of the south at this time. Thus, Daniel 11:27 states:
As regards these two kings, their heart will be inclined to do what is bad, and they will sit at one table speaking lies to each other. But nothing will succeed, because the end is yet for the time appointed.
As suggested by this verse, the talks between the king of the north and the UN will not succeed, “because the end is yet for the time appointed.” As we shall see shortly, once the UN comes into power, that event marks the beginning of the great tribulation (Matthew 24:15, 16, 20, 21). But it is not yet time for that event to take place because there are yet things that need to be accomplished, thus, the talks will fail.
When talks with the UN fail, the king of the north gets a little ticked off. Thus, Daniel 11:28 states:
And he will go back to his land with a great amount of goods, and his heart will be against the holy covenant. He will act effectively and go back to his land
Although he already has some control through wealth, his failed talks with the UN will convince him that he needs to assert his domination over the world and thus reaffirm his sovereignty. To this end, the king of the north will ban all religion. This event marks the fall of Babylon the Great (Revelation 18:2). Once the king of the north bans religion, Babylon the Great, which is currently described as “a city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:18), will then “become a dwelling place of demons and a place where every unclean spirit and every unclean and hated bird lurks” (Revelation 18:2). (See Appendix F for more information about Babylon the Great and the difference between her fall and her destruction.) Thus, in that the king of the north will be intent on wiping out all religion, it can be said that “his heart will be against the holy covenant.”
The UN and Jehovah's Witnesses
As anyone can figure out, Jehovah’s Witnesses, with their zeal for the Society, will not allow the king of the north to interfere with their worship, at least not without a fight. No doubt, the Governing Body will issue orders to organize its people on a global scale (that is, if they have the means of communicating across the seas at that time). The UN, which is still intent on taking control of things on a global scale, will see the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and see their resources (their kingdom halls, assembly halls, and headquarters around the globe) as an opportunity. The UN will come to view the JW organization as a means to establish a global presence once again. Thus, the UN will turn to the Governing Body and appeal to them, “by means of smooth words” (Daniel 11:32).
What exactly are these smooth words? As mentioned under the subheading “The Pontificate,” there are parallels between the initial fulfillment, and the final fulfillment of prophecy. This is probably the most important parallel in the entire story. Just as Emperor Constantine joined Rome with Christianity by telling early Christians that their religion is the right religion, so too, will the UN come to the JWs and tell them that they had it right all along. During the time of Constantine, Christianity was mixed with paganism by converting pagan holidays into so-called Christian holidays. In like manner, the UN will tell Jehovah’s Witnesses that they had it right all along and that we should get rid of holidays and advance their religion. But the glaring question that remains is, why would Jehovah’s Witnesses fall for this? This is where the man of lawlessness comes in. At 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4, we read:
Let no one lead you astray in anyway, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction. He stands in opposition and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits down in them temple of God, publicly showing himself to be a god.
Notice that the “man of lawlessness” is also called the “son of destruction”. As King has insightfully pointed out for us, the son of destruction is a term that is also used to describe Judas, one of the original 12 apostles (, p. 142) (John 17:12). Thus, just like Judas, the man of lawlessness will prove to come from inside the congregation. Indeed, just like Judas, an apostle, so too will the modern man of lawlessness be a leader among Jehovah’s Witnesses. But the man of lawlessness is not a single individual. Rather, it is a group of individuals who lead Jehovah’s Witnesses astray.
Since Babylon the Great will have fallen, Jehovah’s Witnesses will imagine this to be the destruction of Babylon the Great (as shown in Appendix F, Jehovah’s Witnesses currently believe that Babylon the Great has already fallen). Thus, when the UN comes to Jehovah’s Witnesses to unite with them, the man of lawlessness, which will be a group of men from among the Governing Body, and perhaps, all of the Governing Body at that time, will believe that Jehovah is using the UN to advance their religion. The man of lawlessness may even use one of the most famous verses among Jehovah’s Witnesses to justify this claim: “And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14).
The unholy alliance between Jehovah’s Witnesses and the UN is described in the book of Revelation as a second wild beast:
Then I saw another wild beast ascending out of the earth, and it had two horns like a lamb, but it began speaking like a dragon.—Revelation 13:11
It is rather odd that this verse describes the second wild beast as having “two horns like a lamb.” Indeed, the two horns represent the two entities in the alliance: the man of lawlessness, and the UN. These two entities will make themselves appear to be “like a lamb” in that they will pretend that they are following the “Fine Shepherd” (John 10:11) just as a lamb. But in reality, this is not the case. In fact, eventually, the beast begins “speaking like a dragon.” Thus, Jesus warned, “Look out that nobody misleads you, for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ’” (Matthew 24:4, 5). The man of lawlessness will convince his followers that the UN is the “chosen one,” or “christ,” that God is using to advance “true” religion. This will be even more convincing since the UN will come to them with “smooth words” stating that they recognize JWs as the only true religion (Daniel 11:32).
As a side note, another clue that we could use to prove the identity of the second wild beast is the fact that it is seen “ascending out the earth.” The earth is often used to symbolize the people or nations of the earth, as opposed to followers of Christ, who “are no part of the world” (John 15:19).
Matthew 24:11 speaks of “false prophets” that “mislead many.” The primary false prophet to come on the scene is the UN itself. The UN will even be permitted to perform great signs, as stated in Revelation 13:13, 14:
And it performs great signs, even making fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the sight of mankind. It misleads those who dwell on the earth, because of the signs that it was permitted to perform in the sight of the wild beast
We know that the king of the north is not going to permit the UN to have any kind of authority. Thus, the one who “permits” the second wild beast to perform these signs is the great dragon itself, Satan. Revelation 13:11 confirms this by saying that the beast “began speaking like a dragon.” The UN is also the false prophet mentioned in Revelation 19:20, which is eventually “hurled into the fiery lake that burns with fire and sulfur.”
Incidentally, the reason for the dragon to abandon the king of the north and raise up the UN is precisely because of its alliance with Jehovah’s Witnesses. It is Satan’s intention, not to simply destroy the holy ones, but to break their faith and loyalty to Jehovah. When the UN makes an alliance with JWs, it is in a much stronger position to persuade the holy ones to abandon the truth and follow the man of lawlessness.
The King of the North Comes Against the Alliance
Obviously, when the dragon permits the UN and man of lawlessness to perform false signs, those signs will have a religious message attached to it. The king of the north, having already banned religion, will not be pleased with what’s going on, especially in light of the fact that the king of the north’s reason for banning religion in the first place was to secure its sovereignty. The rise in power of the UN-JW alliance certainly poses a threat to that sovereignty. Thus, in response to these signs, the king of the north will come over to wage war with the UN. Daniel 11:18a states, “He will turn his face back to the coastlands and will capture many.” The coastlands refer to America. So, the king of the north turns his face towards America in response to the rising to power of the UN and JWs.
Daniel 11:41 has this to say about the situation:
He will also enter into the land of the Decoration, and many lands will be made to stumble. But these are the ones that will escape out of his hand: Edom, Moab, and the main part of the Ammonites.
The “Decoration” is Bethel headquarters located in New York, thus, the “land of the Decoration” is New York, where again, the UN headquarters happens to reside as well. But, the question is, who do Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites represent?
Moab and Ben-Ammi (the father of the Ammonites), were both Lot’s grandsons (Lot being Abraham’s nephew, Genesis 11:27; 19:30-38). Thus Moab and Ben-ammi were brothers. This relationship is also embodied in the relationship between unfaithful Jehovah’s Witnesses and the man of lawlessness (which is embodied, at least in part, in the members of the Governing Body at that time). In other words, Moab represents unfaithful anointed (who subsequently lose their position) and the main part of the ammonites represent unfaithful witnesses who reject the truth when confronted with it. But what about Edom?
2 Chronicles 25:11-20 illustrates how the Edomites worshipped false gods and subsequently were destroyed by God’s decree. In addition to this, Esau, who was the father of the Edomites (Genesis 36:1) represents false hope, while Jacob (Israel) represents true hope. While the UN claims to be the bringer of “peace and security,” that hope belongs to the anointed, who make up God’s kingdom. This dynamic was foreshadowed in the events that took place between Esau and his brother, Jacob. While Edom, as firstborn, had the right to his father’s inheritance, he sold that birthright to his brother. (Genesis 25:30-34) Thus, while Esau assumed he would receive the birthright and the blessing of his father, the honor went to his brother, Jacob (Israel), through whose line the Messiah was actually produced. Thus, Edom represents the UN.
Remember that the UN resides in the land of the south. Thus, Daniel 11:29, 30a describes the scene:
At the time appointed he will return and come against the south. But this time will not be as it was before, for the ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will be humbled.
Unlike the first time the king of the north invaded America, the second time the king of the north comes to America, he is humbled. The ships of Kittim in these verses picture the “army” of the UN.
Keep in mind that Jehovah’s Witnesses are under the influence of the man of lawlessness. Daniel 11:17a states, “He will set his face to come with the full force of his kingdom, and there will be equitable terms with him; and he will act effectively.” The “equitable terms” between the UN and Jehovah’s Witnesses are made through the man of lawlessness. They are terms that Jehovah’s Witnesses will literally find “equitable” or reasonable. Thus, Jehovah’s Witnesses will believe that Jehovah is using the UN to advance their religion, and the man of lawlessness, under whose influence those remaining of Jehovah’s Witnesses continue, will invoke Revelation 17:16, 17, which states:
And the ten horns that you saw and the wild beast, these will hate the prostitute and will make her devastated and naked, and they will eat up her flesh and completely burn her with fire. For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought yes, to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished.
Thus, the man of lawlessness will convince Jehovah’s Witnesses that it is God’s will to use Satan’s system to destroy Babylon the Great and that it is their responsibility to preserve their religion alive by going along with the UN. Thus, with their army, the UN alliance will come against the king of the north, and, as Daniel 11:6c states, “he will not stand, nor his arm16.”
Daniel 11:18b, 19 paint a slightly more detailed picture of the humbling of the king of the north. It states:
And a commander will make the reproach from him cease for himself, so that his reproach will not be. He will make it turn back on that one. Then he will turn his face back to the fortresses of his own land, and he will stumble and fall, and he will not be found.
The commander in this scripture refers to a representative of the UN-JW alliance. The reproach on this alliance will cease when they defeat the king of the north, and thus, the reproach will be made to turn back on the king of the north. When the king of the north is humbled (Daniel 11:30a) he will turn his face back to his own wealth, but he will stumble and fall and not be found again.
Note what Revelation 13:12a has to say concerning the second wild best in this matter: “It exercises all the authority of the first wild beast in its sight.” In other words, the second wild beast exercises all the authority of the first wild beast, which the dragon gave to it, while the first wild beast is in its sight. It exercises this authority by defeating the first wild beast, that is, the king of the north.
The second part of Revelation 13:12 states:
And it makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first wild beast, whose mortal wound was healed.
In this half of the verse, it explicitly refers to the first wild beast “whose mortal wound was healed.” In other words, it is specifically referring to the seventh head of the wild beast, the king of the north, also known as the financial oligarchy that sprang from the Anglo-America dual world power. The reason it makes this distinction explicit is because the UN is also a part of the wild beast. How so? Revelation 17:11 states:
And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also an eighth king, but it springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction.
The king of the north sprang from the seventh king, which we identified previously as the Anglo-American dual world power. How did it spring from the seven kings, though? It did so in the sense that the Anglo-American dual world power started with a northern region of the Roman Empire (which eventually became Great Britain). Rome, in turn, became the 6th king by conquering Greece, which became the 5th king by conquering Medo-Persia, and so on, all the way down to the 1st king, Egypt. In this sense, each king “sprang” from the kings that came before it. But in order to see how the UN (one of the horns of the second wild beast) is actually related to the first wild beast, we must take a closer look at the description that John revealed to us of the first wild beast. At Revelation 13:1, we read:
[…] And I saw a wild beast ascending out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns ten diadems […]
So the beast has 10 horns with 10 diadems, or crowns. These diadems represent rulership, or kingship. The Insight volumes have this to say about the number 10, and, in particular, with its connection to the wild beast:
Ten is a number denoting fullness, entirety, the aggregate, the sum of all that exists of something. […] One of the beasts of Daniel’s vision and certain beasts in Revelation had ten horns. These evidently represented all the powers, or “kings,” of the earth making up the beastly arrangement. (, p. 513)
Thus, the ten horns represent all the kings, or nations of the earth. Likewise, the second wild beast is described as “ascending out of the earth” (Revelation 13:11). This means that the second wild beast springs from the nations of the earth, a fitting description of the UN, certainly. Going back to chapter 17 of Revelation, this time looking at verse 12, we read:
The ten horns that you saw mean ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they do receive authority as kings for one hour with the wild beast.
Keep in mind that this verse immediately follows the verse that describes the first wild beast as an 8th king. Since the UN springs from the “kings” of the earth, the ten horns actually represent the UN. It’s receiving authority for one hour with the wild beast means that the authority of the UN will coincide with the authority of the king of the north for a short period of time before the UN defeats the king of the north and steps into his place as the 8th king. Thus, once the king of the north is defeated, the UN actually steps into the role of the 8th king. (Note that it is not a 9th king because rather than establishing its own kingdom, it simply takes over the kingdom already established by the king of the north, that it why it is represented as a part of the first wild beast).
The Great Tribulation
The beginning of the great tribulation begins with the UN becoming the 8th king. Regarding the UN, as the one coming against the king of the north, Daniel 11:16 states:
The one coming against him will do as he pleases, and no one will stand before him. He will stand in the land of the Decoration, and ability to exterminate will be in his hand.
Once the king of the north is out of the way, the UN’s lust for world domination will not allow them to share their power with the man of lawlessness. Jesus warned about this at Matthew 24:15-26:
Therefore, when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken about by Daniel the prophet (let the reader use discernment), then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains. Let the man on the housetop not come down to take the goods out of his house, and let the man in the field not return to pick up his outer garment. Woe to the pregnant woman and those nursing in those days! Keep praying that your flight may not occur in wintertime nor on the Sabbath day; for then there will be a great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.
Then if anyone says to you, “Look! Here is the Christ,” or, “There!” do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will perform great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. Look! I have forewarned you. Therefore, if people say to you, “Look! He is in the wilderness,” do not go out; “Look! He is in the inner rooms,” do not believe it.
This warning is given to Jehovah’s Witnesses to flee once they see the union between the man of lawlessness and the UN, because once it gets to the point where the UN defeats the king of the north, it will be too late. Concerning the first century parallel to this incident, King notes:
Jehovah’s Witnesses are well aware that the disgusting thing originally appeared in the form of the Roman armies, which was foretold in the 9th chapter of Daniel. It was in the year 66 C.E. that Roman legions marched on Jerusalem to put down a revolt. Soldiers even began undermining the wall of the temple to get at the militant zealots who were holed up in it. But inexplicably the army withdrew. The zealots even triumphantly gave chase. But calling to mind the words of the Lord Jesus, discerning Christians living in Judea and Jerusalem seized the opportunity to flee before the disgusting thing returned three and a half years later—bringing utter desolation upon the holy city. The death toll reached over a million due to the fact that the Romans besieged the city during Passover when Jerusalem was packed with worshippers and sojourners from faraway. More than likely some negligent Christians failed to escape Jerusalem’s awful fate.
As we’ve discussed previously, the scriptures indicate that the disgusting thing will take hold of the kingdom by means of smooth words, and not an invasion in the manner of the first century fulfillment. But it is interesting to note that the second time the disgusting thing came back, it was during the Passover. Could this mean that when the UN takes control of the Watchtower Society, that they will come in during the celebration of Lord’s Evening Meal? That is a distinct possibility. The thing to focus on in this parallel, however, is the fact that those who did not leave when the opportunity presented itself found themselves in a bad situation when the disgusting thing returned. So too, those who do not heed the call to “begin fleeing to the mountains” when the UN and the man of lawlessness first strike a deal may not have the opportunity to escape when the UN turns on the Society, for, as Daniel 11:16b states, “He will stand in the land of the Decoration, and ability to exterminate will be in his hand.”
As mentioned earlier, the UN will prove to be the ultimate “false prophet,” so when the man of lawlessness says that the UN is the “chosen one”17 to spread their faith, do not believe it!
Daniel 11:20 gives us some insight into how the great tribulation will begin. It states:
And there will stand up in his position one who causes an exactor to pass through the splendid kingdom, but in a few days, he will be broken, though not in anger, nor in warfare.
The “splendid kingdom” is an obvious reference to the Watchtower Society. The exactor will prove to be the man of lawlessness. The man of lawlessness being broken refers to the UN taking control of the Society. When the man of lawlessness is broken, the scripture is fulfilled that says the shepherd will be struck and the sheep scattered (Matthew 26:31; Mark 14:27; Zechariah 13:7). The man of lawlessness is the shepherd in the sense that, up to that point in time, the man of lawlessness will have been shepherding the majority of God’s flock.
Note that the strike against the shepherd is not a literal strike, for the verse just quoted in Daniel says that the man of lawlessness will be broken, “though not in anger, nor in warfare.” The point to take home from this is that rather than the UN turning against the man of lawlessness in rage, the man of lawlessness will make itself obsolete by allowing the UN to take over in a vein effort to spread the “true” religion. Thus the words of Daniel 11:21:
And there will stand up in his position a despised one, and they will not give him the majesty of the kingdom; and he will come in during a time of security and take hold of the kingdom by means of smoothness.
The UN is a despised one in the eyes of Jehovah’s Witnesses (and in the eyes of Jehovah, to be sure), thus this “despised one” will come in, but “they will not give him the majesty of the kingdom.” Rather, the UN will “take hold of the kingdom by means of smoothness.” The time of security for Jehovah’s Witnesses describes the time period when the man of lawlessness first makes a deal with the UN to propagate their religion. It will be a time of peace and security while they are under the protection of the UN, but “then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them” (1 Thessalonians 5:3). Eventually the UN will take over and will owe its rise to power to the Watchtower Society. Daniel 11:23 relates, “And because of their alliance with him, he will carry on deception and rise up and become mighty by means of a little nation.” That “little nation,” of course, is the Society itself.
Verse 22 of Daniel 11 states “And the arms of the flood will be swept away on account of him, and they will be broken; as will the Leader of the covenant.” As mentioned previously (see the subheading, “The Caesars”) the original leader of the covenant was Jesus Christ. But because of the fact that Jesus can no longer be broken, the leader of the covenant in the modern fulfillment has to refer to another entity. To understand who the leader of the covenant is, we first need to know what covenant we are talking about. Since the paragraph in which Daniel 11:22 is embedded is talking about the alliance between Jehovah’s Witnesses and the UN, the covenant must be referring to the covenant made between those two entities. Jehovah’s Witnesses, of course, will view the leader of the covenant to be the Governing Body at that time, the man of lawlessness. Thus, the arms, or armies, or Jehovah’s Witnesses will be swept away once the UN takes control of the society, as will the man of lawlessness himself.
Regarding the UN taking control of Bethel headquarters itself, Daniel 11:42 states: “And he will keep thrusting out his hand against many lands; and as regards the land of Egypt, she will not escape.” The lands here are referring to lands inhabited by Jehovah’s Witnesses, and although the Governing Body and Bethelites, who live in antitypical Egypt, may think they will escape the hands of the UN because they are in a privileged position, this will not prove to be the case, for “as regards the land of Egypt, she will not escape.”
With all the information just provided concerning how the UN is going to deal with the man of lawlessness, we are in a position to understand how the UN will establish a world economy, and what that economy will look like. It begins with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Daniel 11:24 states:
During a time of security he will come into the richest parts of the province and do what his fathers and their fathers have not done. Plunder and spoil and goods he will distribute among them; and against fortified places he will plot his schemes, but only for a time.
The richest part of the province obviously refers to the lavish Bethel headquarters. That which his fathers and their fathers have been unable to do is gain dominion over the entire world. The UN’s government will be absolute, something never before accomplished by any human government. The fortified places against which the UN schemes are the places that are fortified by Holy Spirit, namely, the new congregation of God. As we shall see shortly, the UN will be intent on destroying God’s anointed Christians.
But instead he will give glory to the god of fortresses; to a god that his fathers did not know he will give his glory by means of gold and silver and precious stones and desirable things. He will act effectively against the most fortified strongholds, along with a foreign god. He will give great glory to those who give him recognition, and he will make them rule among many; and the ground he will apportion out for a price.
These verses touch on much of importance. First of all, it talks about fortresses. As mentioned several times throughout this work, fortresses are a symbol of money and power (remember that the fortress of the king of the north, that which acted as a security for him, referred to his wealth, or accumulation of resources). Thus, the UN giving glory to the god of fortresses suggests that the UN will set up its own form of economy based on greed and materialism.
This new UN-based economy will be the very embodiment of the king of the north, whose sole purpose was to acquire wealth and dominion over the earth. This new economy could even be referred to as an “image” of the king of the north (Revelation 13:14, 15). The UN will force all people to “worship the first wild beast, whose mortal wound was healed” (Revelation 13:12b). In what sense?
It puts under compulsion all people—the small and the great, the rich and the poor, the free and the slaves—that these should be marked on their right hand or on their forehead, and that nobody can buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name.
Thus, in order to be able to buy or sell in this new economy, one will be required to receive first the mark of the beast. This need not be a literal mark, it could be purely symbolic of the person’s acceptance of the rulership of man and Satan over God’s rulership. Of course, the first in line to receive the mark of the wild beast will be Jehovah’s Witnesses, because, as stated many times throughout this work and throughout Robert King’s work, the judgment begins with the house of God (1 Peter 4:17)
Now the question, in what way will the UN tell the people of the earth to “make” the image of the wild beast (Revelation 13:14)? Well, in order for the economy to be viable, it needs people to participate in it. Thus, by making people engage in the new economy, people will be helping with the economy’s construction.
At Daniel 11:36, we read of the UN:
The king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt himself and magnify himself above every god; and against the God of gods he will speak astonishing things. And he will prove successful until the denunciation comes to a finish; because what is determined must take place.
The UN magnifying itself above every god has two applications during this time. The first is the UN’s take-over of the Watchtower Society. The second refers to the UN’s destruction of anointed Christians.
The New Congregation of God
When the time of the end begins, there will be those among Jehovah’s Witnesses who have read this work and begin to question things. By the time the disgusting thing appears in the Society, those with true faith in Jehovah will recognize what is going on and respond to this body of work (this includes non-JWs as well). But there will be those without true faith who nevertheless see what is going on and respond to this work as well. Thus, even the new congregation will have to go through a refining period. Let it be known here that Jehovah is the one who will be directing the refining process, and the process will not be headed by men. This refinement is described in Matthew 24:9-13
Then people will hand you over to the tribulation and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of my name. Then, too, many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and mislead many; and because of the increasing of lawlessness, the love of the greater number will grow cold. But the one who has endured to the end will be saved.
The refinement begins with Jehovah’s Witnesses and their response to seeing the disgusting thing. This section of Matthew says that “the love of the greater number will grow cold.” Thus, relatively few of Jehovah’s Witnesses will actually remain strong in their faith during the time of the end. Why? “Because of the increasing of lawlessness.” It is the Society’s own misdealings that will stumble many. In fact, that stumbling has already begun, as evidenced by the number of people who have responded to Robert King and his message. Because of the persecution to be faced by those who remain true to the faith, those who are not strong in their faith will give in to the dire situation in which they will find themselves.
When the prophecy of Matthew 24:31-45 is fulfilled, and the separation of the sheep and the goats begins, Jehovah’s Witnesses will be on the same playing field as everyone else. The slate will be wiped clean, and their judgment will be based on their response to Christ and his Kingdom at that time, just like all the people of the nations. The time for the congregation is a fixed period of time. This time period is given in Daniel 8:13, 14:
And I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one speaking: “How long will the vision of the constant feature and of the transgression causing desolation continue, to make both the holy place and the army things to trample on? So he said to me: “Until 2,300 evenings and mornings; and the holy place will certainly be restored to its right condition.
As we can see in these verse, there will be 2,300 evenings and mornings from when the drama concerning the disgusting thing and the constant feature begins (that is, from the time that the constant feature is removed and the disgusting thing is put into place). This is referring to the second time the disgusting thing enters the temple to overturn its agreement with the man of lawlessness. Since there is 1 evening and 1 morning per day, 2,300 evenings and mornings amounts to 1,150 days. Thus. 1,150 days after the disgusting thing is put in place, the new congregation will be restored to it right condition (see Appendix A).
Once the new congregation is restored, the remaining anointed ones come into action in earnest. We can see what exactly will happen concerning the anointed at Revelation 11:3-6:
“I will cause my two witnesses to prophecy for 1,260 days dressed in sackcloth.” These are symbolized by the two olive trees and the two lampstands and are standing before the Lord of the earth.
If anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths and consumes their enemies. If anyone should want to harm them, this is how he must be killed. These have the authority to shut up the sky so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophecying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every sort of plague as often as they wish.
The first thing we need to do to understand this is to identify the two witnesses. This can be done by taking a look at Revelation 11:11, 12 where it is revealed that the two witnesses are eventually resurrected up into heaven. Thus, the two witnesses must symbolize the anointed. Although the anointed really begin their prophesying at the beginning of the time of the end, once the kingdom is established, it is not until the new congregation is restored that they begin to receive attention from the UN. Why is that? The answer can be found at Daniel 11:44a, which states “But reports out of the east and out of the north will disturb him.” So the question is, what does the east and the north represent?
The Bible often equates the “north” with the place of Jehovah’s residence (Psalm 48:1, 2; Isaiah 14:13, 14). In other words, the north represents heaven. Thus, reports coming from the north are reports being issued from God’s Kingdom ruling in Heaven. But what about the reports coming from the east? Matthew also mentions something coming out of the east. At Matthew 24:27, 28 we read:
For just as the lightening comes out of the east and shines over to the west, so the presence of the Son of man will be. Wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
One important thing we can gather from these two verses is that they connect the reports coming from the east to the presence of Christ. Thus, reports concerning the presence of Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom will come out of the east. But what does the east represent? We are given a clue at Daniel 8:9, which reads, “Out of one of them came another horn, a small one, and it grew very great toward the south and toward the east and toward the Decoration.” The modern Decoration up to now has been Bethel, the place where Jehovah has caused his name to reside. Once the new congregation is restored, however, Jehovah’s name will reside where his anointed are, in the new congregation. Hence, the new congregation will be the new Decoration, and the east refers to Christ’s congregation.
The Hebrew word for “west” is “yam,” which also means “sea.” (, p. 1179) Isaiah 60:5 relates the sea to “nations,” thus when the reports of the Kingdom spread from east to west, it symbolizes the fact that the news of the kingdom will issue forth from the congregation to the people of the nations, “and this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14)
In response to these reports, Daniel tells us that the UN “will go out in a great rage and devote many to destruction” (Daniel 11:44b). What exactly is meant by that? There is a specific group of people that are destined to be destroyed by the second beast. Revelation 13:6, 7a gives us more details about the beast’s response to these reports:
And it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God to blaspheme his name and his dwelling place, even those residing in heaven. It was permitted to wage war with the holy ones and conquer them.
Revelation 11:7, 9 confirms this by saying of the two witnesses, who symbolize the anointed:
When they have finished their witnessing, the wild beast that ascends out of the abyss will wage war with them and conquer them and kill them. And their corpses will be on the main street of the great city that is in a spiritual sense called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was also executed on a steak.
But, there is hope for them, for as mentioned above, Revelation 11:11, 12 reveals to us that after 3½ days the two witnesses will be raised up to heaven. This murder of God’s anointed is the very last event to take place prior to the final period in the time of the end.
The murdering of God’s holy ones is the catalyst for Jehovah’s anger and rage to be poured out on Satan’s system. This is confirmed at Matthew 24:22b, which reads, “on account of the chosen ones, those days will be cut short.” In other words, it is because of the death of the anointed that the days of the tribulation will be cut short. Matthew 24:29-31 describes what will happen then:
Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.
The darkening of the sun and moon is probably not literal. Either way, it definitely symbolizes the depth of chaos and despair the world will be thrown into when Christ comes to render judgment on Satan and his system. It is at that point that Babylon the Great will finally be destroyed and false religion will no longer be found on the earth or in heaven. That the tribes of the earth beat themselves in grief in response to the sign of the Son of man indicates that those on the earth will know who it is that is coming to render judgment on them, for it is then that “they will have to know that I am Jehovah” (Ezekiel 7:27).
At this point, the anointed, now resurrected into heaven, will be gathered together “from one extremity of the heavens to the other extremity” to prepare for the battle of Armageddon in “the great day of God the Almighty” (Revelation 16:14). Once this happens, the kingdom of man “will be broken up and divided to the four winds of the heavens” and the kingdom of the 8th king will “go to others besides these” (Daniel 11:4) That is, the kingdom of Christ will take over dominion over the kingdom of the earth (Revelation 11:15).
After this, the clouds and gloom will open up, and Jehovah “will plant his royal tents between the grand sea and the holy mountain of Decoration” (Daniel 11:45). That is Jehovah’s tent will extend all the way from the seas of the earth up to the mountain of Decoration, heavenly Mount Zion. In other words, Jehovah’s residence will be with mankind on the earth as well as the angels and anointed in heaven and mankind will finally be restored to perfection and the channels of communion and communication will be restored between Jehovah and his children on earth. Finally, after 1,000 years, Satan will be released from the abyss for a short while as a final test before he comes “all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him” (Daniel 11:45; Revelation 20:2, 3).
A Visual Representation of the Prophetic Time Periods
Chronological Ordering of the Verses of Daniel 11
Note 1: This appendix is provided as an outline of events. For more a more detailed explanation of these events, refer to the main body of this work under the heading “The Scrolls Unsealed,” in the appropriate subheading.
Note 2: This appendix will refer to four time periods:
(2b) The fourth one will amass greater riches than all the others. And when he becomes strong by means of his riches, he will rouse up everything against the kingdom of Greece. (3) And a mighty king will stand up and rule with extensive dominion and do as he pleases. (4) But when he has stood up, his kingdom will be broken and be divided toward the four winds of the heavens, but not to his descendants and not like the dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom will be uprooted and go to others besides these
Overview: These three verses give us a broad overview of what is to happen concerning the 8th king, from beginning to end.
Verse 2b (Period 1): Describes the king of the north amassing riches and setting himself up to become the 8th king, which will culminate with the king of the north rousing up “everything against the kingdom of Greece”
Verse 3 (Period 2): This is describing the king of the north in his role as the 8th king
Verse 4 (Period 4): The kingdom of the 8th king will ultimately be “divided toward the four winds of heaven.” In other words, the kingdom of heaven will take over dominion of the earth. This will happen at the very end, when Satan’s entire system is shaken out of existence.
(5a) And the king of the south will become strong, that is, one of his princes; (5b) but one will prevail against him and will rule with extensive dominion, greater than that one’s ruling power.
Overview: This verse is a very brief overview of the final struggle between the kings of the north and south.
Verse 5a (Period 1): This is occurring now, America (the king of the south) has already become strong.
Verse 5b (Period 2): Occurs when the king of the north finally overtakes the king of the south at the very beginning of the time of the end.
(6a) After some years they will make an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the south will come to the king of the north in order to make an equitable arrangement. (6b) But she will not retain the power of her arm; (6c) and he will not stand, nor his arm; (6d) and she will be given up, she and those bringing her in, and the one who caused her birth, and the one making her strong in those times.
Overview: The way this verse is written is very clunky and not in chronological order. This verse gives an overview of what is to occur from the present to the end of the appointed time of the nations.
Verse 6a (Period 1): The “alliance” and “equitable arrangement” described in this part of the verse refer to the current Anglo-American alliance
Verse 6b, d (Period 2): Parts b and d of this verse parallel one another and both describe the daughter of the king of the south (America) falling to the king of the north
Verse 6c (Period 2): Describes the fall of the king of the north to the UN, as described above in the subheading, “Events to Occur During the Time of the End.” This is to take place at some point after the alliance between the UN and Jehovah’s Witnesses occurs, and hence, after the disgusting thing is put into place.
(7) And one from the sprout of her roots will stand up in his position, and he will come to the army and come against the fortress of the king of the north and will take action against him and prevail. (8) Also with their gods, with their metal images, with their desirable articles of silver and of gold, and with captives, he will come to Egypt. For some years he will stand off form the king of the north, (9) who will come against the kingdom of the king of the south, but will go back to his own land.
Overview: These three verses describe the very beginning of the modern application of the entire prophecy of the 11th chapter of Daniel. It describes how the modern king of the south became the king of the south.
Verses 7-8 (Period 1): These verses describe the colonists’ liberation from Britain. The colonists’ coming to Egypt in Verse 8 has two applications. First, the colonists came to Egypt in the sense that they literally crossed over the ocean and into the land that was to eventually become known as America. They did this with their desirable things, as well as their captives (their slaves). The second application is that the colonists came to Egypt in the sense that, at that time, the colonists stepped into the role of the king of the south. The second half of verse and verse 9 have to do with the time leading up to, and including the Revolutionary War.
(10) As for his sons, they will prepare for war and assemble a vast, great army. He will certainly advance and sweep through like a flood. But he will go back, and he will wage war all the way to his fortress. (11a) And the king of the south will become bitter and will go out and fight with him, that is, with the king of the north; (11b) and he will muster a large crowd, but the crowd will be given into that one’s hand. (12) And the crowd will be carried away. His heart will become exalted, and he will cause tens of thousands to fall; but he will not make use of his strong position. (13a) And the king of the north will return and muster a crowd larger than the first; (13b) and at the end of the times, after some years, he will surely come with a large army and with many resources. (14a) In those times many will stand up against the king of the south. (14b) And the violent ones among your people will be carried along to try to make a vision come true; but they will stumble. (15) And the king of the north will come and throw up a siege rampart and capture a fortified city. And the arms of the south will not stand, nor will his select men; and they will have no power to stand.
Overview: This span of 16 verses is a more detailed description of how the king of the north will conquer the king of the south through terrorism.
Verses 10, 11a (Period 1): Verse 10 prophesied the 9/11/2001 attacks on America and the subsequent recession that was engineered by the king of the north. “His sons” at the beginning of the verse refers to the sons of Great Britain, the forerunner of the modern king of the north. These “sons” are those who inherited the British financial institution, the big bankers and banking families of London and Wall Street21. See Appendix C for more details about how the financial oligarchy is connected to the attacks on 9/11. Suffice it to say, the oligarchy was also the power that engineered the 2008 economic recession. That recession rocked Wall Street to its core, and in that way, the king of the north “[waged] war all the way to his fortress.”22
Verse 11a describes America’s response to the oligarchy’s tactic of terrorism. America “became bitter” and invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.
Verses 11b, 12 (Period 1): This account parallels that in Verses 10 and 11a: the king of the north mustered a large crowd of terrorists to perform the 9/11 attacks and other terrorist plots, but that crowd was given into the hands of America when America went to war with the terrorists and killed Osama Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein, as well as quelling the Taliban. Through American involvement in the Middle East the terrorist “crowds” were carried away, and America’s heart became exalted. But America did not make use of its strong position. Rather than remaining in the Middle East and continuing to fight off terrorist groups, the Obama administration has taken steps to pull American troops out of the Middle East.
Verse 13a (Period 1): This is happening now. The king of the north continues to recruit terrorists to wage war with America. As explained in Appendix C, it does this through financial backing. The effects of this were recently witnessed in Syria and Libya, and can also been seen in the rise of ISIS. However, this petty Middle East squabbling is only a side effect of the king of the north’s financial backing, and not the goal. Verse 13b describes the ultimate goal of gathering in these terrorist groups.
Verse 13b, 14 (Period 2): Ultimately, this new army that the king of the north is mustering, which will be “larger than the first,” will come against the king of the south, during the time of the end, “and many will stand up against the king of the south”
Verse 14b (Period 2): “The violent ones,” or “the sons of the robbers,” as the footnote states, are the ones who inherited the money from the original British financial oligarchy (back when the financial oligarchy was embodied in the formal British Empire). The vision of these sons of robbers is to preserve their wealth. In order to preserve their wealth, they need a way to control the masses. To this end, the king of the north attempts to recruit the UN, which already has existing infrastructure.
Verse 15 (Period 2): A siege rampart is a rampart (a mound or ramp) up to the wall or fortification of a city to bring in siege equipment. The fortified city in this verse is America, which is fortified by waters on both sides. The siege rampart will prove to be ships, and “the arms [or armies] of the south will not stand, nor will his select men,” the select men being America’s government officials.
(16a) The one coming against him will do as he pleases, and no one will stand before him. (16b) He will stand in the land of the Decoration, and ability to exterminate will be in his hand. (17a) He will set his face to come with the full force of his kingdom, and there will be equitable terms with him; and he will act effectively. (17b) As regards the daughter of women, it will be granted to him to bring her to ruin. And she will not stand, and she will not continue to be his.
Overview: These two verses outline the drama that unfolds between the king of the north, the UN, and Jehovah’s Witnesses, the latter two, represented by the two horns of the second wild beast found at Revelation 13:11.
Verse 16a (Period 3): Since the subject of verse 15 is the king of the north, then “the one coming against him” refers to an entity coming against the king of the north. The one coming against the king of the north during the time of the end is the second wild beast found at Revelation 13:11. This will prove to be an alliance between the UN and the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses (the Watchtower). This UN-JW alliance will prove to be a force that compels all people of earth to worship it as the ultimate form of government. In this way, he “will do as he pleases, and no one will stand before him.”
Verse 16b (Period 3): The “land of the Decoration” is the land in which the Decoration resides. The original land of the Decoration was Judea, the Decoration being the place where Jehovah once caused his name reside, namely, Jerusalem and the temple. Even though, during the 1st century, Jerusalem and the temple were abandoned by Jehovah, it still held significance for Jewish Christians during that time. Jerusalem and the temple typify God’s organization today, namely, the Watchtower, which has similarly been abandoned by Jehovah. As noted by King, the “temple” of the Watchtower, Bethel headquarters, is located in the same “city” that the UN headquarters is located in. Isaiah 19:18 refers to this city as “The City of Tearing Down.” (, p. 254) This is because the UN-JW alliance will prove to be the means by which Jehovah tears down, or passes judgement upon, his own house. In addition, the UN, which will have replaced the king of the north as the 8th king, is given the authority to kill Jehovah’s anointed servants (Revelation 11:7; 13:7). Thus, “ability to exterminate will be in his hand.”
Verse 17a (Period 2): The real reason behind the future alliance between the Watchtower and the UN is because Satan wants control over anointed Christians. Satan already has some control over them through the man of lawlessness, who has deceived Jehovah’s Witnesses and has already entered into a partnership with the UN. However, Satan wants anointed Christians to worship his system and thereby reject Jehovah’s Kingdom. To that end, the United Nations will work in conjunction with the man of lawlessness (both of which are under Satan’s control) to deceive and manipulate Jehovah’s Witnesses. Hence, there will be “equitable terms,” or “an agreement” between the UN and the leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who already control virtually every aspect of the lives of JWs. This agreement marks the beginning of the 1,215 days of God’s judgment on his own house (which concludes with the end of the appointed time of the nations).
Verse 17b (Period 3): As described in Appendix E, the modern-day woman of prophecy is the Christian congregation, and her offspring is the composite body of anointed Christians. In Revelation, the offspring is described as a male child, which symbolizes headship (see Appendix E), in Daniel 11:17, the offspring is described as a daughter. The feminine aspect of the offspring represents the fact that Jesus is her head, hence, she is also described as the bride of Christ (Revelation 19:6-8; 21:2). As for why she is referred to as the daughter of women (plural), apparently, at that time, there will be anointed in the wilderness with God’s true congregation (Revelation 12:6) as well as anointed still in among Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence the plural “women” stands for both congregations. This half of the verse confirms what was written concerning verse 16b, that the 8th king will kill the anointed (“she will not stand”). However, both those anointed who remain faithful, as well as those who do not are going to be killed; thus, Jehovah will not allow Satan and his system to continue to possess them as spoils.
(18a) He will turn his face back to the coastlands and will capture many. (18b) And a commander will make the reproach from him cease for himself, so that his reproach will not be. He will make it turn back on that one. (19) Then he will turn his face back to the fortresses of his own land, and he will stumble and fall, and he will not be found. (20) And there will stand up in his position one who causes an exactor to pass through the splendid kingdom, but in a few days he will be broken, though not in anger nor in warfare. (21) And there will stand up in his position a despised one, and they will not give him the majesty of the kingdom; and he will come in during a time a security and take hold of the kingdom by means of smoothness. (22) And the arms of the flood will be swept away on account of him, and they will be broken; as will the Leader of the covenant. (23) And because of their alliance with him, he will carry on deception and rise up and become mighty by means of a little nation. (24) During a time of security he will come into the richest parts of the province and do what his fathers and their fathers have not done. Plunder and spoil and goods he will distribute among them; and against fortified places he will plot his schemes, but only for a time.
Overview: The first two verses in this section of the scriptures reiterates and summarizes the drama played out in verses 16 and 17, concerning the power struggle between the UN-JW alliance and the king of the north. The rest of the verses go on to detail the actions of that alliance after they overthrow the king of the north
Verse 18a (Period 2): The “He” at the very beginning of this verse who “will turn his face back to the coastlands” is the king of the north (the London-centered financial oligarchy). The coastlands, in this context, refer to America, which is a coastland on both the left and right side. After the economic collapse, the king of the north turns back to America and sends his army to take the country and capture many.
Verse 18b (Period 2): The commander in this verse refers to a representative of the unnatural alliance between the UN and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Once the 8th king has recruited the UN, both the UN and Jehovah’s Witnesses forge an alliance that allows them to undermine the king of the north, which has brought reproach on both groups of individuals (the United Nations and Jehovah’s Witnesses)—refer to the subheading “Period 2” for more details on this point. The UN-JW alliance then causes its reproach to turn back on the king of the north by undermining his power.
Verse 19 (Period 2): As mentioned previously, the fortresses of the king of the north represent his security, which comes through his wealth. Hence, the king of the north turns back to his wealth for help with the UN-JW alliance, but to no avail, “he will stumble and fall, and he will not be found.”
Verse 20 (Period 3): The exactor in this verse refers to the man of lawlessness and the “splendid kingdom” refers to the worldwide congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The UN uses the man of lawlessness to convince Jehovah’s Witnesses to give their allegiance to the UN. The man of lawlessness accomplishes this by means of “smoothness” (Daniel 11:21). This is when each of Jehovah’s Witnesses has to make a decision, to go along with the UN and receive the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:16-18) or to turn to true worship. This necessarily means that as God’s people, Jehovah’s Witnesses are the first to be tested with the mark of the beast. As King points out numerous times in his own work, “judgment begins with the house of God.” (, p. 436) (1 Peter 4:17) This is also the beginning of the separating of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25:31-33)
But “in a few days” (which could mean literally a few days, or just a short period of time) the exactor, which is the man of lawlessness, is broken. Since the man of lawlessness has, up to this point been acting as the shepherd of Jehovah’s flock, the scripture is then fulfilled wherein the shepherd is struck, and the sheep are scattered (Matthew 26:31; Mark 14:27; Zechariah 13:7). As these scriptures state, after the sheep are scattered, they are re-gathered into a new congregation. From the time the disgusting thing is put into place (the disgusting thing being the UN, which enters into a relationship with Jehovah’s Witnesses) to the time the new congregation is brought into its right condition, there is 1,150 days (Daniel 8:13, 14—see Appendix A).
Verse 21 (Period 3): The despised one is the UN. Up to this point, the UN will have been viewed by JWs as the scarlet-colored wild beast of Revelation. As discussed under the subheadings “The UN and the King of the North,” and "The UN and Jehovah's Witnesses" the 8th king will eradicate all religion. Jehovah’s Witnesses will interpret this to be the destruction of Babylon the Great, when in reality it is only the fall of Babylon the Great (See Appendix F). When the UN turns to the Watchtower for support and resources it will appeal to Jehovah’s Witnesses by telling them that they have the one true religion, and that holidays should be abolished, and anything that will convince them to get on board with them. The man of lawlessness, which acts as the leadership of the organization, will convince Jehovah’s Witnesses that God is thus using the UN to advance “true” religion. This will thus be a time of perceived security for Jehovah’s Witnesses, but the UN will come in and take hold of the “splendid kingdom” by means of smoothness. This whole scenario parallels the drama that played out between Roman Emperor Constantine, the council of Nicaea, and the establishment of the Pontificate when the Constantine convinced Christians to compromise their faith and follow Rome. (see the subheading, “The Pontificate”)
Verse 22 (Period 3): The flood is a flood of people and the arms are actually armies. The arms of the flood are thus the army of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which will be swept away on account of the UN, once the UN takes hold of the kingdom (Verse 21). And the people will be broken, as will the leader of the covenant. As mentioned in the body of the paper, the original Leader of the covenant was Jesus Christ (see the subheading, “The Caesars”). But, Jesus cannot be the leader of the covenant in the ultimate fulfillment of the prophecy owing to the fact that Jesus can no longer be broken. Thus, the covenant spoken of in this verse cannot be the new covenant between the anointed and Christ, at least not in the greater fulfillment of prophecy. Instead, this covenant is the covenant that will be established between the Watchtower and the UN. Since Jehovah’s Witnesses will believe that God is using the UN at this point to further his own goals, they will assume that the leader of that covenant is their own Governing Body, every member of which, at that point, will also be a member of the composite man of lawlessness, since they will have been unfaithful to Jehovah and instead be complicit with the UN. So, the leader of the Society, as well as its members will be broken once the UN takes over the Watchtower organization. By agreeing to merge with the UN, the man of lawlessness will have, in fact, made itself obsolete. Just like the overseers of the early church, who agreed to allow the Emperor of Rome to become the leader of the church through the Pontificate and placing Constantine in the position of Pope, so too, the man of lawlessness, by being complicit with the UN will abdicate their authority over the Watchtower Society to the UN, thus rendering the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses and the man of lawlessness obsolete.
Verse 23 (Period 3): In context, this verse is fairly self-explanatory. The alliance referred to here is obviously the alliance between Jehovah’s Witnesses and the UN. The UN will become mighty be means of the “little nation” of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Verse 24 (Period 3): The security referred to here is the relative security of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Remember that Jehovah’s Witnesses will believe that the UN is being used by Jehovah to advance their religion, but the security is illusory, and it is that “whenever they are saying, ‘Peace and security!’ then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them” (1 Thessalonians 5:3) and UN officials will come into “the richest parts of the province [Bethel headquarters] and do what his fathers and their fathers have not done.” In other words, unlike the governments that came before, the UN will succeed in bringing the entire world under its dominion, creating a true world power that has dominion over the entire earth (in the eyes of the nations). Then, the UN will distribute resources among the people, but for a price…that of receiving the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:16, 17). This is the beginning of the separating of the sheep and the goats. As discussed above, the judgment begins with the house of God (1 Peter 4:17), but at this point in history, Jehovah’s Witnesses will be given a clean slate…they will be viewed just as the rest of the nations in Jehovah’s eyes. While it is true that they will have a clearer foundation of truth upon which to base their actions, Jehovah will judge each person’s heart fairly, and the Witnesses will be on equal ground with all other people in the judgment. The fortified places against which the UN will “plot its schemes, but only for a time” are those places which will be fortified by Jehovah’s Holy Spirit, that is, the places where people in the new congregation come together to worship and to spread the news that God’s Kingdom has finally been established.
(25) And he will muster his power and his heart against the king of the south with a large army, and the king of the south will prepare himself for the war with an exceedingly large and mighty army. And he will not stand, because they will plot schemes against him. (26) And those eating his delicacies will bring his downfall. As for his army, it will be swept away, and many will fall down slain. (27) As regards these two kings, their heart will be inclined to do what is bad, and they will sit at one table speaking lies to each other. But nothing will succeed, because the end is yet for the time appointed. (28) And he will go back to his land with a great amount of goods, and his heart will be against the holy covenant. He will act effectively and go back to his land
Overview: This span of verses gives us more details about the drama to unfold between the king of the north and the king of the south once the time of the end begins.
Verse 25 (Period 2): The army that the king of the north gathers will undoubtedly be composed of the followers he has gathered (for example, the terrorists that the king of the north is financing—see Appendix C). The exceedingly large and mighty army the king of the south gathers will actually be a coalition of democratic, or “free” nations, headed no doubt by the U.S., but also comprised of European powers.
Verse 26 (Period 2): The military powers of the United States are among those who are “eating his delicacies” (the delicacies of the king of the south) in the sense that they are being paid by the U.S. government. However, once the economy collapses, the government’s funds will dry up and that same military power will seek out the one with the money or resources (namely, the king of the north) and join with him. In that sense, “those eating his delicacies will bring his downfall.” Also, this is how the army will be swept away (by the king of the north).
Verse 27 (Period 2): Keep in mind that this verse occurs immediately after the verse describing the downfall of America, so how is it that the two kings will then “sit at one table speaking lies to each other?” The UN is headquartered in New York, and is assimilated into the western world. As such, the UN can be said to be an arm of the king of the south. The talks that occur between the king of the north and the king of the south actually occur between the financial oligarchy (the king of the north) and the UN. But these talks will not succeed, “because the end is yet for the time appointed.” The real end begins with the beginning of God’s judgment, which, as mentioned before, begins with God’s own house. Thus, once the UN is in power and is assimilated into the Watchtower Society as the “disgusting thing,” the beginning of God’s judgment, and hence, the beginning of the end commences. Since “the end is yet for the time appointed,” the UN cannot come into power until that time commences.
Verse 28 (Period 2): Once the king of the north is in power, he will want to wipe out all religion because organized religion will be perceived as a threat to his sovereignty. In this way, “his heart will be against the holy covenant,” as it will be against all religion. This event is one of the catalysts for the the UN and Jehovah’s Witnesses to join forces. At that time, the king of the north will be in power and he will have defeated America and its coalition of western nations. In that sense, he will have acted effectively and will “go back to his land.”
(29) At the time appointed he will return and come against the south. But this time will not be as it was before, (30) for the ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will be humbled. He will go back and hurl denunciations against the holy covenant and act effectively; and he will go back and will give attention to those leaving the holy covenant. (31) And arms will stand up, proceeding from him; and they will profane the sanctuary, the fortress, and remove the constant feature. And they will put in place the disgusting thing that causes desolation.
Overview: These two verses describe the transition of power, and ultimately the title of the 8th king from the financial oligarchy to the United Nations.
Verses 29, 30 (Period 2): This event occurs sometime shortly after the UN has aligned with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Keep in mind that the heart of the king of the north is against the holy covenant, with that motive, the king of the north comes against, not the king of the south, which has already fallen, but against the land of the south, wherein is headquartered the unnatural UN-JW alliance, “But this time will not be as it was before.” The ships of Kittim represent the military might of the alliance, which will cause the king of the north to be humbled. In fact, this represents a transition of power.
At this point in Daniel’s prophecy, the king of the north has been defeated by the UN-JW alliance and the title of the 8th king moves to the UN. The UN is not a 9th king, because rather than establishing its own kingdom, it just takes over the already established kingdom set up by the king of the north. Also, because the king of the north is out of the picture at the point that the king of the north is humbled, the topic of conversation switches from the king of the north to the UN in the middle of this verse. Hence, the one who gives “attention to those leaving the holy covenant” is the UN.
Verse 31 (Periods 2 and 3): As stated in the body of this work, this verse describes the second time the UN will stand in the “temple” as the disgusting thing.23 Once the UN-JW alliance has defeated the king of the north, the UN will decide that it no longer needs the services of the man of lawlessness and does away with the governing body all together in order to take direct control of the Watchtower’s resources. This is when the UN stops putting on pretense about the Society’s religion and discontinues the Society’s formal worship. This constitutes the removal of the constant feature as described in this verse. As discussed earlier, the fortress represents the money and resources of the king of the north; hence, the UN’s profaning the fortress symbolizes their taking control over the resources of the king of the north. This verse constitutes the very last event to occur during period 2, and represents the transition from period 2 to period 3
(32) And those who act wickedly against the covenant, he will lead into apostasy by means of smooth words. But the people who know their God will prevail and act effectively. (33) And those having insight among the people will impart understanding to the many. And they will be made to stumble by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plundering, for some days. (34) But when they are made to stumble, they will be given a little help; and many will join with them by means of smooth speech. (35) And some of those having insight will be made to stumble, in order to do a refining work because of them and to do a cleansing and a whitening until the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed.
Overview: This span of verses fills in detail about how the relationship between the UN and the Watchtower evolves from the time that the king of the north goes back to his land in verse 28, to the time that the king of the north returns to the south to go up against the UN in verse 29.
Verse 32 (Period 2): This verse describes the first time the UN goes to the Watchtower Society to join forces in response to the king of the north’s campaign against organized religion. Those who act wickedly against the covenant, as described in this verse, are those who are represented by the man of lawlessness, those who have the authority and will to make an alliance with the UN. It is these ones that the UN will “lead into apostasy by means of smooth words.” But, as the verse says, “those who know their God will prevail and act effectively.” That is, those who remain loyal to Jehovah will not be deceived by the UN’s deceptions.
Verse 33 (Period 2): The key phrase in the first sentence of this verse is “among the people;” that is, those who have insight among Jehovah’s Witnesses, or those who Jehovah’s Witnesses turn to for insight, are those in positions of leadership, namely, the Governing Body. The GB will impart their own “understanding” of the events unfolding around them. More specifically, since the king of the north will have abolished “all” false religion in the eyes of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the GB will interpret this to be the destruction of Babylon the Great. Because the GB will believe false religion no longer exists at this point, the UN’s declaration that they should join with JWs to propagate their religion as the true religion will be interpreted by the GB as a sign that Jehovah is using the UN to further His purpose in advancing true religion. This is the “understanding” that the man of lawlessness, the Governing Body, will impart to the people. Because of their zeal for their religion the king of the north will come after Jehovah’s Witnesses, “and they will be made to stumble by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plundering for some days.” This stumbling begins before the UN joins with them.
Verse 34 (Period 2): The perceived assistance by the UN is the “little help” that is given to Jehovah’s Witnesses, and many will join with them by means of smooth speech. As discussed earlier, this is when the separation begins (with the house of God). But eventually “many” from the general population of the earth will join with “them” (Jehovah’s Witnesses) in giving their allegiance to the UN by means of the UN’s “smooth words,” and thus the people of the earth will also receive the mark of the beast in order to buy and sell under the UN’s arrangement.
Verse 35 (Periods 2, 3): “Those with insight” in this verse refers to those who accept the truth, as opposed to “those with insight among the people,” in verse 33, which, in context, refers to those among Jehovah’s Witnesses who purport to have insight. This verse calls for a refining, even among the people in God’s true congregation. The phrase “time of the end” cannot refer to the entire period of time that is referred to as “the time of the end;” instead, the phrase in this context refers to the time when the true congregation is restored to its right condition (see Appendix A), “because it is yet for the time appointed.” That last phrase implies that God has a set period of time for how long it will take to refine the true congregation.
(36) The king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt himself and magnify himself above every god; and against the God of gods he will speak astonishing things. And he will prove successful until the denunciation comes to a finish; because what is determined must take place. (37) He will show no regard for the God of his fathers; nor will he show regard for the desire of women or for any other god, but he will magnify himself over everyone. (38) But instead he will give glory to the god of fortresses; to a god that his fathers did not know he will give glory by means of gold and silver and precious stones and desirable things. (39) He will act effectively against the most fortified strongholds, along with a foreign god. He will give great glory to those who give him recognition, and he will make them rule among many; and the ground he will apportion out for a price.
Overview: This span of verses is a description of the extent and nature of the reign of the UN as the 8th king.
Verse 36 (Period 3): The UN will magnify himself over ever god, including Jehovah himself. This is not to say that the UN will become greater than Jehovah, but that he will be in his own eyes and in the eyes of those who serve him (including unfaithful Jehovah’s Witnesses).
Verses 37-39 (Period 3): The people of the nations are concerned with everyday things, such as riches, power, glory, women, etc. The UN, however, is not concerned with trivial matter, it will, in fact, be concerned, not with everyday riches and power, but with ultimate riches and power. Its desire will not be quenched simply with limited power, but it’s desire will be to have domination over the entire earth. Matthew 6:24 actually equates the pursuit of “Riches” as equivalent to serving a god: “No one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other. You cannot slave for both God and Riches.” Since, as discussed earlier, the fortresses represent money and power, the god of fortresses mentioned in verse 28 (which is the same as the foreign god mentioned in verse 39) represents control over all resources and wealth in the earth, with the ability to apportion out those resources at will, and this is what the UN will do, “for a price.” That price is subservience to the UN itself, in opposition to Jehovah, thus coming in line to receive the mark of the beast.
(40a) In the time of the end the king of the south will engage with him in a pushing. (40b) and against him the king of the north will storm with chariots and horsemen and many ships; and he will enter into the lands and sweep through like a flood. (41) He will also enter into the land of the Decoration, and many lands will be made to stumble. But these are the ones that will escape out of his hand: Edom and Moab, and the main part of the Ammonites. (42) And he will keep thrusting out his hand against the lands; and as regards the land of Egypt, she will not escape. (43) And he will rule over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the desirable things of Egypt. And the Libyans and the Ethiopians will be at his steps. (44) But reports out of the east and out of the north will disturb him, and he will go out in a great rage to annihilate and to devote many to destruction. (45) And he will plan his royal tents between the grand sea and the holy mountain of Decoration; and he will come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him.
Overview: Just as the first few verses (2b-4) served as a brief overview of events to occur concerning the 8th king, so too does this set of verses give us a summary of those events.
Verse 40a (Period 1): As mentioned previously, this pushing is occurring now, with America democrats pushing socialist agendas that are at odds with the financial oligarchy’s greed, and the financial oligarchy in the process of engineering a world-wide financial collapse that will leave the nations defenseless.
Verse 40b (Period 2): The financial collapse will enable the king of the north, who at that time will be in possession of the resources that are of any value to anyone, to come in and take control of the earth, and in particular, the land of the king of the south (America). Thus, the king of the north will “enter into the lands and sweep through like a flood.”
Verse 41 (Period 2): As discussed before, the Decoration symbolizes Bethel; thus, the land of the Decoration is America. More specifically, it is New York, where Bethel headquarters resides. This king of the north enters into the land of the Decoration in response to the UN uniting with Jehovah’s Witnesses after the king of the north outlaws religion. Many lands will be made to stumble because of the king of the north, but, as the verse states, Edom, Moab, and the main part of the Ammonites will escape out of his hand. Who do these three entities represent? Since the we know from verses 29 and 30 that the king of the north falls to the UN-JW alliance, Edom, Moab, and the main part of the Ammonites must be embodied in that alliance.
Verse 42 (Period 3): Since the king of the north is out of the picture at this time, the UN, which has stepped into the position of the 8th king, is the subject of this verse. Thus, it is the UN that “will keep thrusting out his hand against the lands.” The “lands” here represent the lands inhabited by JWs. This verse is depicting the betrayal by the UN against Jehovah’s Witnesses, and the removal of the constant feature. But those in Bethel headquarters, who reside in “Egypt” may think they will get away because of their privileged position, but “as regard the land of Egypt, she will not escape.”
Verse 43 (Period 3): The treasure of silver and gold represent the resources of the JWs and, in particular, the rich resources of Bethel, the “desirable things of Egypt.” Since the term “land of Egypt” in this and the previous verse is referring specifically to the land of Bethel (what is now known as New York), the people of America who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses are referred to as “Libyans and “Ethiopians,” both lands of which are south even of Egypt. In other words, America is still considered to be in the prophetic “south.” Once the UN has gotten rid of the king of the north and acquired its riches, the people of the nations (and in particular, America, where the UN headquarters is located in close proximity to Bethel) will be at the UN’s doorstep to in order to receive the mark of the beast along with unfaithful witnesses so that they too can buy and sell.
Verse 44 (Period 3): Reports from the east represent report issuing forth from the Kingdom of God, whose head is the Christ (Matthew 24:27). The Bible often equates the “north” with the place of Jehovah’s residence (Psalm 48:1, 2; Isaiah 14:13, 14). In other words, the north represents heaven. Thus, reports coming from the east and from the north are reports being issued from God’s Kingdom ruling in heaven. This corresponds to the prophesying of the two witnesses (Revelation 11:3). Note that the prophesying occurs for 1,260 days. This corresponds to the 1,260 days that the woman is fed in the wilderness (Revelation 12:6). In fact, this verse is depicting the end of the witnesses prophesying The two witnesses represent anointed Christians, who finish their prophesying and after which, the UN “will go out in a great rage and annihilate” and devote the anointed to destruction. That the witnesses represent the anointed is seen from the fact that after they have been dead for 3½ days, they are resurrected into heaven (Revelation 11:7, 11, 12). This is the very last event to occur before Period 4 begins. In fact, the martyrdom of God’s holy ones is the catalyst that initiates God’s wrath and judgment on Satan and his entire wicked system of things.
Verse 45 (Period 4): This verse depicts Jehovah planting His tent “between the grand sea and the holy mountain of Decoration.” The Bible uses seas to represent people, and mountains to represent governments. Thus, this verse is saying that Jehovah will dwell among the people of the earth, as well as among the creatures in heaven, where his Kingdom is established. This symbolizes the fact that no one will be cut off from Jehovah any longer. True communion between Jehovah and mankind will be restored. Finally, 1,000 years, as this verse states, Satan “will come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him.”
The King of the North's Shady Dealings
The Link Between the London-Centered Financial Oligarchy, Illegal Financial Ventures, and Terrorism
As discussed in other parts of this work, as well as in King’s book, the king of the north’s identity in modern times can be figured out by tracing the roots of financial greed that originally started in Venice, and was later reproduced in Britain. (, p. 216) From that moment on, Britain became the seeker of wealth, and it is the ideal of preservation of wealth as well as the accumulation of more wealth that has lead its inheritors down a dark path of paranoia that required them to attack any threat to their wealth. They have done this through economic engineering, back-door deals, and through sponsoring terrorist groups to intimidate those who pose a threat.
Illegal Financial Activity
It is no surprise that the financial oligarchy is an entity that operates above the law in its quest for money. In many respects, that’s the exact same mindset of its predecessor, the British Empire. King notes, “it is well documented that London established the illicit drug trade and the merchant banks of London have reaped enormous profits pushing dope on the peoples of lesser nations.” (, p. 268) After Britain failed to convince China to open its ports to opium trade, Britain decided to force opium on the people by smuggling it into small Chinese ports.
“In modern times,” King notes,
It has been documented that the driving force behind the illegal drug industry does not originate in the jungles of Columbia, or in the poppy-strewn hillsides of Turkey of Afghanistan, or elsewhere where peasants cultivate dope. The real beneficiaries and primary promoters of the lucrative drug trade are not the street pushers or even the notorious drug lords. What is seldom mentioned, but no less true, is that without the money-laundering services of the banking system, the drug trade would soon choke on its own flood of cash. Hence, the laundering of drug money is a vital necessity, and that’s where the global financial system comes in. The trillion-dollar per-year drug trade nets the banks and hedge funds involved hundreds of billions of dollars. Without question, dope still is one of the most important “sales goods” of the British Empire. (, pp. 268-269)
As of May 24, 2015, if you do a quick Google search for the phrase, ‘global capital for money laundering’, the following six headlines can be found among the top 12 search results:
- London is the ‘global capital of money-laundering’
- London—Money Laundering Capital of the world
- London property boom built on dirty money
- London is the ‘global capital of money-laundering (a repeat of the first article posted on a separate website: http://ethiquedesplaces.blogspirit.com/archive/2012/08/10/london-is-the-global-capital-of-money-laundering.html)
- How London is a ‘safe haven’ for money laundering: Thousands of homes are being bought in capital anonymously by offshore companies to hide corrupt money
- London is 'money-laundering capital'
According to Bosworth-Davies, “Daily Telegraph Editor and historian Max Hastings said a ‘senior central banker’ recently told him that London is now considered to be the ‘money-laundering capital of the world.’” According to Bosworth-Davies, this situation has come about in modern times because “laws and regulations have never been effectively enforced by financial regulators, and banks and other financial institutions know they can get away with paying lip service to the rules.” In other words, as stated above, the financial oligarchy effectively operates above the law.
Confirming the role that banks have played in drug trafficking, Rajeev Syal of The Guardian notes:
Antonio Maria Costa, head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said he has seen evidence that the proceeds of organised crime were "the only liquid investment capital" available to some banks on the brink of collapse last year. He said that a majority of the $352bn (£216bn) of drugs profits was absorbed into the economic system as a result.
The 9/11 Attacks
As stated earlier in this work, the financial oligarchy centered in London does not operate alone. It’s operation includes Wall Street tycoons, big bankers in America, and corporate CEOs, pretty much anyone who is interested in preserving their own wealth over public welfare. To that end, American republicans have long been pawns of the financial oligarchy. Nowhere is this more readily seen in recent years than in the most recent Bush administration.
In the wake of the 9/11/2001 attacks, it is no secret that there was a connection between George W. Bush and the Saudi royal family. This relationship is expounded upon in great depth through two books as well as interviews by journalist Craig Unger, who wrote House of Bush, House of Saud as well as The Fall of the House of Bush. (, ) Unger writes:
For decades, Saudi Arabia has been one of America’s two most powerful allies in the Middle East, not to mention an enormous source of oil. The Bush family and the House of Saud, the two most powerful dynasties in the world, have had close personal, business, and political ties for more than 20 years. In the 80s, when the elder Bush was vice president, he and Prince Bandar became personal friends. Together, they lobbied through massive U.S. arms sales to the Saudis and participated in critical foreign-policy ventures. In the 1991 Gulf War, the Saudis and the elder Bush were allies.
In the private sector, the Saudis supported Harken Energy, a struggling oil company in which George W. Bush was an investor. Most recently, former president George H. W. Bush and former secretary of state James A. Baker III, his longtime ally, have appeared before Saudis at fund-raisers for the Carlyle Group, arguably the biggest private equity firm in the world. Today, former president Bush continues to serve as a senior adviser to the firm, whose investors allegedly include a Saudi accused of ties to terrorist support groups.
What does this have to do with the 9/11 attacks? There is much evidence to support the notion that the Saudi government financed the 9/11 attacks. There is much speculation on the Internet on this. In particular, many believe that a 28-page censored section of Congress’ Joint Inquiry report contains vital information regarding this topic.
In addition to this speculation, there are reports and testimonies that Saudis have funded the attacks through the Saudi-owned al-Shamal Islamic Bank in Khartoum, Sudan, a bank which was capitalized by Bin Laden. In addition, many Al-Qaeda members also held accounts at that bank. According to an independent news source:
Haifa bint Faisal, wife of Saudi ambassador Bandar bin Sultan, acknowledged that she sent nearly $150,000 to the wife of a Saudi living in San Diego. The recipient, Majeda Ibrahin Dweikat, signed over some of the checks to a friend whose husband, Omar al-Bayoumi (with Dweikat’s husband), helped hijackers Khalid Almidhar and Nawaf Alhazmi find housing in San Diego, open bank accounts, get Social Security cards, pay expenses and arrange flying lessons in Florida.”
Much more recently, the so-called “20th hijacker” of 9/11, Zacarias Moussaoi testified that he was responsible for keeping a database of Al-Qaeda sponsors, including several members of the Saudi Royal family.
Unger provides much more details and evidence of the Saudi connection to the 9/11 attack in his article quoted above.
But what does all this have to do with London and the financial oligarchy that embodies the king of the north? In his book King notes, “Recent revelations establish a London/Saudi connection through the British defense company, BAE. It turns out that billions of dollars in a complex oil-for arms deal ultimately funneled money from a Saudi prince to the Saudi hijackers while they were in flight class in America.”
King is no doubt alluding to the financial help provided by Omar al-Bayoumi, mentioned above. In any case, BAE Systems (successor to British Aerospace), headquartered in London, is the second largest arms provider and defense contractor as of 2010. This company has a long history with Saudi Arabia via an arrangement known as the Al-Yamamah arms deal, in which BAE and its predecessor sold arms, such as fighter jets, to Saudi Arabia in exchange for up to 600,000 barrels of crude oil a day delivered to the UK government. In 2010, four years after government inquiry into corruption surrounding the Al-Yamamah deal ended for the sake of “national security,” BAE Systems admitted to “false accounting and making misleading statements in relation to allegations of corruption.”
So what is the connection between the oligarchy’s hunger for oil and the relationship between Bush and the Saudi royal family? As stated above, American republicans have long been pawns of the oligarchy. Bush ties with the Saudis as well as the reasons for the wars after 9/11 are detailed by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward. According to CBSNews: “Woodward reports that just five days after Sept. 11, President Bush indicated to National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice that while he had to do Afghanistan first, he was also determined to do something about Saddam Hussein.” (, ) Why? This question can be answered with one word: oil.
The financial oligarchy is not simply interested in cash, which will be worthless after the financial crash that is even now being engineered by the king of the north. In order to maintain its wealth and power after the financial collapse, the people behind the financial oligarchy will need raw materials, such as precious metals, and, most importantly, oil. To this end, the people behind the curtain engineered the 9/11 attacks and used George W. Bush as a pawn to invade Iraq and take over its oil fields.
Anointed Christians and the "Great Crowd"
Many people today believe that when they die, they will go to heaven. In fact, many believe that all those who are in good standing with God go to heaven, but is that the case? When Jesus was alive, he stated that “no man has ascended to heaven but the one who descended from heaven” (John 3:13). So from the time of creation until the time that Jesus became a man, not a single man had ever been in heaven. This clearly contradicts the belief of many “Christian denominations” that those who are in good standing go to heaven after death. If we are to believe Christ’s words, that means Abraham, Noah, Sarah, David, Daniel, all the Prophets, and countless others who were favored by Jehovah are not in heaven.
In fact, the Bible is very clear about what happens at death when it says, “For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) In other words, at death, awareness, or consciousness, ceases. Jesus himself confirmed this when he compared death to resting in sleep (John 11:11-14).
Although the dead are not conscious, most of the dead have a hope for the future. The Bible speaks of two future resurrections. The first resurrection occurs for those who are to rule alongside Christ in God’s Kingdom for 1,000 years. At Revelation 20:4, we read:
And I saw thrones, and those who sat on them were given authority to judge. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed for the witness they gave about Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had not worshipped the wild beast or its image and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with Christ for 1,000 years.
Revelation 20:5 confirms that, indeed, “this is the first resurrection.” Verse 5 also speaks of those who are part of the second resurrection, stating, “The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.” Incidentally, the book of Revelation numbers those who rule alongside Christ for 1,000 years. At Revelation 14:1, we read:
Then I saw, and look! The Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who have his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.
We know that Christ’s Kingdom is to rule from heaven, and not from the earth; when on earth Jesus told his disciples, “In a little while the world will see me no more.” (John 14:19) Indeed, Jesus will no longer return to the earth, but he will rule from heavenly Mount Zion, where those anointed with Holy Spirit are to reside with him. Jesus confirmed this by telling his disciples, “In the house of my Father are many dwelling places. Otherwise, I would have told you, for I am going my way to prepare a place for you. Also, if I go my way to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you home to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” (John 14:2, 3)
The term “anointed” or “anointed Christian” refers specifically to those Christians who have been anointed with God’s Holy Spirit and who have the hope of resurrection into heaven.(John 3:1-12). But not all Christians are anointed with Holy Spirit. In fact, John the baptizer was not anointed and does not have a heavenly hope. Jesus said of John, “Truly I say to you, among those born of women, there has not been raised up anyone greater than John the Baptist, but a lesser person in the Kingdom of the heavens is greater than he is.” (Matthew 11:11)
As discussed above, Revelation 14:1 numbers those who are going to heaven at 144,000. Revelation 7:1-8 confirms this, and immediately after that, in verse 9, it speaks of a “great crowd,” saying, “After this I saw, and look! A great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all the nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes.” Notice that instead of standing with Jesus on Mount Zion, like anointed Christians, the great crowd stands before Jesus, and before the throne. That is not to say that the great crowd is in heaven, nevertheless, Jesus is in front of them in a figurative sense, rather than a literal sense.
That the great crowd are wearing white robes symbolizes the fact that they will have been cleansed of their sins through the blood that Jesus shed. It is at this time that the value of Jesus sacrifice is applied to mankind, who are then restored to perfection. In addition to this, as discussed above, those who have died in the past (prior to God’s judgment) will be resurrected and given the opportunity to receive accurate knowledge of the truth and the chance to respond to or reject God’s sovereignty. This is what John meant when he wrote, “All those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.” (John 5:28b-29) In other words, the “resurrection of judgment” can be compared to a probationary period, their final judgment will be based on their response to the truth after resurrection.
The Prophetic "Woman" and Her Offspring
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will crush your head, and you will strike him in the heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
This prophecy was uttered by God in response to Satan’s scheme to prevent God from carrying out his will for the human race and the earth, Because of this, it has to do with God’s resolution to that problem. Of course, we know that Jesus’ death was God’s means of saving mankind. But more than that, he is also the one who will rule God’s kingdom for 1,000 years. It is that kingdom which will ultimately put Satan to death. This is the crushing of Satan’s head in the prophecy. But what about Satan’s strike to the heel? This occurred at Jesus’ death. Like a heel wound that is temporary and would soon heel, shortly after his death, Christ was risen from the grave. So we know the offspring of the woman is Jesus, but who is the woman?
Although Mary was the literal woman that gave birth to Jesus, she cannot be identified as the woman of the prophecy given at Genesis 3:15 because it would not fit the pattern for our time. There is another prophecy concerning a woman and her offspring that has a more modern fulfillment. Revelation 12:4b, 5 states:
And the dragon kept standing before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she did give birth, it might devour her child. And she gave birth to a son, a male, who is to shepherd all the nations with an iron rod. And the child was snatched away to God and to his throne.
This description certainly sounds like Jesus, but keep in mind that Jesus was already in heaven when this was written. This prophecy has to do with the time of the end. Revelation 12:17 gives us more details about this offspring of the woman:
So the dragon became enraged at the woman and went off to wage war with the remaining ones of her offspring, who observe the commandments of God and have the work of bearing witness concerning Jesus.
According to this verse, the woman has more than one offspring, and after the male child is snatched away to God, there are those of her offspring who still remain on earth. Recall from Appendix D that there are 144,000 co-rulers in God’s kingdom alongside Christ. These are the ones who “have the work of bearing witness concerning Jesus” before they enter heaven. When the first resurrection to heaven occurs, there will still be those left one earth who have a heavenly hope. Once they die, they will go immediately up to heaven “in the blink of an eye.” (1 Corinthians 15:51, 52) These ones who remain on earth are the remaining ones of the woman’s offspring. So, who is the woman?
The woman is an entity that “gave birth” to the offspring. In that sense, the modern-day “woman” is the Christian congregation, out of which will have come forth those with a heavenly hope. As a side note, just as God’s people in modern times are “giving birth” to anointed Christians, God’s people, Israel gave birth to Jesus during his time.
So the original woman was God’s people, the nation of Israel, and the modern woman is God’s people, the true Christian congregation.
Babylon the Great
The Insight volumes have this to say on Babylon: “The later name given to Babel. This city of renown was located along the Euphrates River on the plains of Shinar approximately 870 km (540 mi) E[ast] of Jerusalem and some 80 km (50 mi) S[outh] of Baghdad.” (, p. 235) The city, or kingdom, of Babel is the first organization (in this case a governmental organization) that the Bible records as being in opposition to Jehovah (as opposed to individuals who opposed Jehovah) (Genesis 11:1-9). In fact, the Bible describes the founder of the city, Nimrod, as “a mighty hunter in opposition to Jehovah.” (Genesis 10:9)
The Insight volumes describe Babylon as the source of many religious superstitions that persist even to this day and that are prominent even in apostate Christianity. Some of these superstitions included:
- The Trinity (or the concept of a triad of deities): “Triads of deities were also prominent in the Babylonian religion. One of these, made up of two gods and a goddess, was Sin (the moon-god), Shamash (the sun-god), and Ishtar; these were said to be the rulers of the zodiac. And still another triad was composed of the devils Labartu, Labasu, and Akhkazu.” (, p. 237)
- Idolatry (manifested in apostate Christianity in the form of using the cross in worship): “Idolatry was everywhere in evidence. Babylon was indeed ‘a land of graven images,’ filthy ‘dungy idols.’—Jer 50:1, 2, 38” (, p. 237)
- Immortality of the human soul: “The Babylonians believed in the immortality of the human soul.—The Religion of Babylonia and Assyria, by M. Jastrow, Jr., 1898, p. 556.” (, p. 237)
- Astrology and Magic: “The Babylonians developed astrology in an effort to discover man’s future in the stars. […] Magic, sorcery, and astrology played a prominent part in their religion. (Isa 47:12, 13; Da 2:27; 4:7) Many heavenly bodies, for example, planets, were named after Babylonian gods. Divination continued to be a basic component of Babylonian religion in the days of Nebuchadnezzar, who used it to reach decisions.—Eze 21:20-22” (, p. 237))
Babylon the Great
Because the land that Babylon inhabited now lays in ruins, (, p. 235) the prophecy of Revelation concerning Babylon the Great (Revelation 14:8; 16:9; 17; 18; 19:1-3), to be fulfilled in our time, cannot possibly refer to the literal city of Babylon. By way of description, the John has this to say of Babylon the Great:
On her forehead was written a name, a mystery: “Babylon the Great, the mother of the prostitutes and of the disgusting things of the earth.” And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus (Revelation 17:5, 6)
Regarding Babylon the Great, the Reasoning book has this to say:
In the symbolism of Revelation, Babylon the Great is referred to as a “great city,” a “kingdom” that rules other kings (Rev. 17:18) Like a city, it would have many organizations within it; and like a kingdom that includes other kings in its domain, it would be international in scope. It is described as having relations with political rulers and contributing much to the wealth of men in commerce, while itself being a third element that “has become a dwelling place of demons” and a persecutor of “prophets and of the holy ones”—Rev. 18:2, 9-17, 24 (, pp. 49-50)
Finally, concerning Babylon the Great, an angel says:
Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive a part of her plagues. For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind. (Revelation 18:4, 5)
Only if we take into consideration all of these points can we begin to paint a picture of what Babylon the Great is. First consider her aspect of prostitution. The Bible, has, in various places, referred to fornication and prostitution in a spiritual sense as a person or group of people who “get in bed” with foreign gods; that is, worshiping false gods is often referred to as a form of spiritual fornication or prostitution (Isaiah 54:5, 6; Ezekiel 16:15, 25-29; 23:1-49; Jeremiah 3:2, 9; Hosea 6:10). This combined with the fact the original city of Babylon was home to all the world’s false religions during its time, and the fact that Babylon the Great is a dwelling place of demons and has the blood of the prophets and of the holy ones on her hands can only lead to one conclusion. Babylon the Great is identified as the “world empire of false religion.” (, p. 49)
The Fall of Babylon the Great
Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that the fall of Babylon the Great and the destruction of Babylon the Great are two separate events. This teaching is actually insightful, as the Bible describes the continued existence of Babylon the Great after her fall: “’She has fallen!’ Babylon the Great has fallen, and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a place where every unclean spirit and every unclean and hated bird lurks!” (Revelation 18:2) However, Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Babylon that Great has already fallen. They cite the dwindling numbers of the churches of Christendom as evidence of this. As we shall see, the fall of Babylon the Great is actually a future event.
As discussed in Appendix B and in the subheading, “Period 2,” once the king of the north comes into power as the 8th king, his heart will turn against the holy covenant. In fact, it will be the intention of the king of the north to wipe out all religion, because he will perceive organized religion as a threat to his position of power. Of course, one of the final religions to stand will be that of Jehovah’s Witnesses, owing to two facts. First, is the fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses are one of the most organized and zealous religious groups on the earth. This alone, however, will not be enough. The second fact is, as discussed in other sections, is that fact that the Watchtower will make an alliance with the UN, and that alliance will protect Jehovah’s Witnesses for a time (until the UN turns on the leadership of the society after the threat of the king of the north is out of the way). This wiping out of all religions (with the exception of the true religion and the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses) will constitute the fall of Babylon the Great.
Confirming this series of events, Revelation says:
And the ten horns that you saw and the wild beast, these will hate the prostitute, and will make her devastated and naked, and they will eat up her flesh and completely burn her with fire. For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought, yes, to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God have been accomplished. (Revelation 17:16, 17)
That this event constitutes the fall of Babylon the Great is confirmed two verses over, starting in the next chapter:
After this I saw another angel descending from heaven with great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his glory. And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: “She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen.” (Revelation 18:1, 2)
The Destruction of Babylon the Great
This event, however, cannot constitute the destruction of Babylon the Great, for two simple reasons. First of all, as mentioned in the first paragraph of this subheading, Revelation 18:2 describes Babylon the Great’s continued existence after the fall. Second, the fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses will still exist as a part of Babylon the Great. In addition to this, as discussed in the body of this text, when the UN comes into the Watchtower Society, it will be under the guise of setting up Jehovah’s Witnesses’ religion as a world-wide religion. Although the UN will eventually turn on Jehovah’s Witnesses, the system that it sets up, as an image of the king of the north, will not only be a governmental system, but one in which the UN compels the people to worship it (Revelation 13:15). Since this government will have been established after God’s Kingdom has already been established, it is considered to be in competition with God’s Kingdom, and hence a part of false religion.
Because of this, destruction of Babylon the Great does not occur until all of man’s governments have been wiped off the earth. Thus, the final destruction of Babylon the Great is not executed by an earthly power, but by Jehovah God himself. The destruction of Babylon the Great marks God’s final judgment on Satan’s system.
This Appendix will outline the rest of Revelation that has not already been covered in this work, with the exception of the first 4 chapters. We will not be going over John’s in-depth descriptions of heaven and its inhabitants. Instead, we will be discussing the opening of the 7 seals, the blowing of the 7 trumpets, the 7 thunders, and the 7 bowels of the anger of God. Note that the actual interpretation of each of these things will be handled in more depth in the next paper concerning prophecy. The purpose of this appendix is to simply outline the events and place them within the timeline of Appendix A.
The First Six Seals
We begin with Revelation 5:1-5, where the 7 seals are introduced:
And I saw in the right hand of the One seated on the throne a scroll written on both sides, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice: “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” But no one in heaven or on earth or underneath the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it. I gave way to a great deal of weeping because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look into it. But one of the elders said to me: “Stop weeping. Look! The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has conquered so as to open the scroll and its seven seals.
So here we see that Jesus, “the Lion of the tribe of Judah,” is the only one worthy of opening the seals on the scroll, as he is the one who bought mankind with his own blood (Revelation 5:9). The rest of chapter 5 is a depiction of the creatures of heaven and earth gathering to sing praise to Jehovah and Jesus (Revelation 5:13).
The First Four Seals
The opening of the first four seals correspond to the ride of the so-called “four horsemen of the apocalypse,” in popular literature. The first of these horses is white. And its rider goes out to conquer. This rider is also depicted as having a crown, indicating kingship. The imagery of conquering is reminiscent of the description of Jesus in the previous chapter (Revelation 5:5). Thus, with conquering and with kingship, the rider of the white horse can be none other than Jesus himself. (Revelation 6:1, 2)
When the second seal is opened, the second, fiery-colored, horse is beckoned, and its rider is said to “take peace from the world.” In other words, the second horseman brings with it war (Revelation 6:3, 4). The third seal is opened and a third, black horse, comes on the scene, and its rider brings with him famine (Revelation 6:5, 6). Then, finally, the fourth seal is opened and the fourth pale horse begins its ride. The rider of this horse is given a name: Death, “and the Grave was closely following him.” This rider is described as having been given authority to kill a fourth part of the earth with sword, famine, and pestilence (Revelation 6:7, 8).
When the fifth seal is opened, the anointed cry out from beneath the alter in heaven for their deaths to be avenged. The response given to them to “rest a little while longer, until the number was filled of their fellow slaves and their brothers who were about to be killed as they had been.” Because of this response, we can conclude that all the events up to this point occur prior to the end of Period 3, when the remaining anointed are killed off (remember that Period 4, the Day of Jehovah, occurs in response to the killing of the anointed).
The Sixth Seal
With the opening of the sixth seal, there is a great earthquake, and the sun goes black, and the moon becomes as blood (Revelation 6:12, 13). Obviously the symbolism in this is very heavy, but we can make at least some sense of it. This imagery is reminiscent of Matthew 24:29, which occurs immediately following the great tribulation, after the anointed have been killed (remember that the great tribulation is cut short in response to the murder of God’s anointed—Matthew 24:22).
During this time, 7,000 people are killed by the great earthquake and the rest become frightened and give glory to god (Revelation 11:13). This marks God’s judgment on Satan’s wicked system (Revelation 6:14-17). In fact, the opening of the sixth seal marks the beginning of “the great day of god the Almighty” (Revelation 16:14). Because of this, we know that the opening of the sixth seal occurs immediately after the deaths of the remaining anointed.
Other scriptures confirm that the imagery laid out in Revelation 6:12, 13 and Matthew 24:29 is associated with the day of Jehovah. Joel 2:31, for example, states that “the sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and awe-inspiring day of Jehovah. This imagery is meant to depict heavy judgement to come upon the earth. Joel 2:1, 2 confirms this by saying:
For the day of Jehovah is coming! It is near!
It is a day of darkness and gloom,
A day of clouds and thick gloom
Throughout the Bible the same imagery is applied to the day of Jehovah. The imagery in Isaiah 13:9-13 is even more sobering:
Look! The day of Jehovah is coming,
Cruel both with fury and with burning anger,
To make the land an object of horror,
And to annihilate the land’s sinners from it.
For the stars of the heavens and their constellations
Will not give off their light;
The Sun will be dark when it rises
And the moon will not shed its light.
I will call the inhabitants of the earth to account for its badness,
And the wicked for their error,
I will put an end to the pride of the presumptuous,
And I will humble the haughtiness of the tyrants.
I will make mortal man scarcer than refined gold,
And humans scarcer than the gold of Ophir
That is why I will make the heavens tremble,
And the earth will be shaken out of its place
At the fury of Jehovah of armies in the day of his burning anger.
Of course, the earth will not literally be shaken out of its place, these are images that represent the judgment that is to come upon Satan’s system, but there is hope for those who return to Jehovah. Joel 2:11b-14 confirms this:
For the day of Jehovah is great and very awe-inspiring.
Who can endure it?
“Yet even now,” declares Jehovah, “return to me with all your hearts,
With fasting and wailing.
Rip apart your hearts, and not your garments,
And return to Jehovah your God,
For he is compassionate and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loyal love,
And he will reconsider the calamity.
Who knows whether he will turn back and reconsider
And leave behind a blessing,
A grain offering and a drink offering for Jehovah your God?”
Moving on to Revelation 7:1-3 (still under the sixth seal) we see four angels holding back four winds and they are told not to harm the earth until the sealing is complete. After that, Revelation 7:3-8 describes the sealing of the 144,000. Keep in mind that at that point, the anointed have already been killed and the day of Jehovah started. This necessarily means that the sealing of the anointed does not occur until after all the anointed have been killed. Thus, the sealing occurs as a response to the faith, loyalty, and endurance of the anointed even to the point of death.
Finally, once the anointed are sealed, the great crowd is gathered before the throne (Revelation 7:9, 10) and the anointed are gathered before the throne (Revelation 7:11, 12), and the great crowd is identified as those who come out of the great tribulation (Revelation 7:13-17).
The Seventh Seal and the Seven Trumpets
Upon the opening of the seventh seal (Revelation 8:1), seven angels receive seven trumpets (Revelation 8:2), and the prayers of the holy ones are offered up along with smoke from an incense vessel (Revelation 8:3, 4) and fire from the incense vessel is thrown down to the earth in the incense vessel (Revelation 8:5).
The First Four Trumpet Blasts
When the first angel blows his trumpet, “hail and fire mixed with blood” is hurled to the earth and a third of the earth, trees, and vegetation are burned up (Revelation 8:7). When the second trumpet sounds, a mountain with fire is hurled into the sea and a third of the seas become blood and a third of the sea creatures die and a third of the ships are wrecked (Revelation 8:8, 9). When the third angel blows his trumpet, a great star named wormwood falls from heaven onto a third of the rivers and streams and many die from drinking bitter water (Revelation 8:10, 11). Finally, when the fourth trumpet is sounded, a third of the sun, moon, and stars are struck and darkened and a third of the day and a third of the night do not have light because of it (Revelation 8:12).
This symbolic imagery is again, reminiscent of Revelation 6:12, 13 and Matthew 24:29. Although we know from the discussion above (under “The Sixth Seal”) that this imagery corresponds to God’s judgment on this wicked system of things, the specific meanings of each of these depictions shall be reserved for the next paper concerning prophecy.
The Last Three Trumpet Blasts and the Three Woes
In Revelation 8:13, an angel states:
“Woe, woe, woe to those dwelling on the earth because of the rest of the trumpet blasts of the three angels who are about to blow their trumpets!”
That is three woes for those on the earth, one for each of the remaining trumpet blasts.
The Fifth Trumpet Blast
The First Woe
When the fifth trumpet is blown, the shaft of the abyss is opened and the sun and air are darkened from the smoke ascending out from the shaft (Revelation 9:1, 2). When this occurs, locusts are seen coming out of the smoke of the shaft, and they are said to be given “the same authority that the scorpions of the earth have” (Revelation 9:3). The Locusts are told not to harm the vegetation, plants, or trees, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads, and even then, they are not to kill anyone, but only to torment them as if being tormented by a scorpion sting. In fact, people will seek death but not find it (Revelation 9:4-6).
Revelation 9:7-10 gives a depiction of the locusts. In part, it says they appear as horses with human faces and women’s hair and crowns. The crown represent kingship, or rulership, and the hair represents submission, more specifically, submission to Christ. Thus, the locusts depict the sealed holy ones (or anointed). The King over the locusts is called Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek (Revelation 9:11). Since Christ is the head of the anointed, we can conclude that the identity of Abaddon is Michael.24
The Sixth Trumpet Blast
The Second Woe
When the sixth trumpet is blown the four angels bound at the Euphrates who “have been prepared for the hour and day and month and year” are untied in order to kill a third of the people (Revelation 9:13-15). Then John sees 200,000,000 cavalry horses with fire, smoke, and sulfur coming out of their mouths, and a third of the people are killed by the three plagues coming out of the horses’ mouths (fire, smoke, and sulfur), and their tails have heads like serpents to inflict harm (Revelation 9:16-19). But those who are not killed by the horses do not repent (Revelation 9:20, 21).
At this point, we should begin to see something strange. Up to this point, it has always been assumed that those who come out of the great tribulation are the same group of people that survive Armageddon and are approved by God. Remember from our discussion of the sixth seal that the great crowd is identified as those coming out of the great tribulation (Revelation 7:9, 13-17), but Jehovah’s judgment on Satan’s system occurs immediately after the great tribulation ends (Matthew 24:29). In fact, as we can see from Revelation 9:20, 21, even those who have been tormented all the way up to the sixth trumpet blast still do not repent. Therefore, it must be concluded that not all of the great crowd are approved to survive into the new world.
After the 200,000,000 horses, John sees a strong angel with a little scroll cry out “with a loud voice just as when a lion roars,” after which “the voices of seven thunders spoke” (Revelation 10:1-3). After John is about to write down what the seven thunders said, he is commanded, “Seal up the things the seven thunders spoke, and do not write them down” (Revelation 10:4). A few versus down, it tells us that the sacred secret is brought to a finish when the seventh angel is about to blow his trumpet (Revelation 10:7); thus, it may well be that we will not be given what the thunders spoke until we are already deep within the time of the end.
After hearing the seven thunders, John is told to eat the little scroll and it is sweet in his mouth, but makes his stomach bitter, and then he is told to prophesy (Revelation 10:8-11).
The Seventh Trumpet Blast
The Third Woe
After discussing the fate of the two witnesses and the consequences of their death (Revelation 11:1-13), the seventh angel finally blows his trumpet (Revelation 11:15). The only information we are given about the events proceeding seventh trumpet blast is that the kingdom of the world becomes the kingdom of Christ, the anointed praise Jehovah and worship him, and the sanctuary of God is opened up (Revelation 11:15-19). Exactly why the seventh trumpet blast brings a third woe is not explicitly stated in this part of Revelation; although, as we shall see, there is more information revealed in later parts of the book of Revelation concerning the last trumpet blast.
And I saw in heaven another sign, great and wonderful, seven angels with seven plagues. These are the last ones, because by means of them the anger of God is brought to a finish.
As we can see from this verse, the seven plagues are the means by which God completes his wrath against Satan’s system. At Revelation 15:6, we see these same angels emerge from the “sanctuary of the tent of the witness” (Revelation 15:5-8)
Chapter 16 of Revelation describes each of these plagues (also called “the seven bowls of the anger of God” at Revelation 16:1). Through correlation in the imagery of many of these plagues and the imagery associated with the seven trumpet blasts, we can conclude that the seven plagues correspond to the events proceeding each of the seven trumpet blasts, and we thus get a deeper vision of the events to occur after each trumpet blast.
For example, the second bowl is poured out into the sea, and the sea becomes like blood (Revelation 16:3). This is similar to the events that occur after the second trumpet blast (Revelation 8:8).26 Similarly, the third bowl is poured out on the river and springs and they become blood (Revelation 16:4), similar to the imagery found at Revelation 8:10, where a third of the rivers and streams are turned bitter. Another correlation can be found between the 6th plague and the 6th trumpet blast, both of which make reference to the Euphrates (Revelation 9:14, 15; 16:12).
Although the correlations described above may not be particularly strong, the real evidence that the plagues and the trumpets correlate to one another is given at Revelation 16:13-21, which begins after the sixth plague is poured out, but before the seventh starts:
And I saw three unclean inspired expressions that looked like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the wild beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and they perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.
“Look! I am coming as a thief. Happy is the one who stays awake and keeps his outer garments, so that he may not walk naked and people look upon his shamefulness.”
And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Armageddon.
The seventh one poured out his bowl on the air. At this a loud voice came out of the sanctuary from the throne, saying: “It has come to pass!” And there were flashes of lightening and voices and thunders, and there was a great earthquake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell; and Babylon the Great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. Also, every island fled, and mountains were not found. Then great hailstones, each about the weight of a talent, fell from heaven on the people, and the people blasphemed God because of the plague of hail, for the plague was unusually great.
2 The disgusting thing is mentioned several times by Daniel. Another reference to the disgusting thing can be found at Daniel 11:31. That verse also mentions the removal of the constant feature. As noted by the footnote in the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, the term translated “constant feature” may also be rendered “continual sacrifice.” It was noted in our previous work entitled The Disgusting Thing that the continual sacrifice is the continual worship and field service provided by Jehovah’s Witnesses and that the disgusting thing will prove to be the United Nations. For a more detailed discussion of why the UN will prove to be the disgusting thing, that is, what will cause it to be disgusting in Jehovah’s eyes, see the subheading below, entitled "The UN and Jehovah's Witneses". For a discussion of how the UN has already proved to be a disgusting thing through its NGO partnership with the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses, see our previous work entitled The Disgusting Thing.
4 Why are the anointed remnant represented by two witnesses? The Insight bound volumes has this to say on the matter: “The number two frequently appears in a legal setting. Agreement in the account of two witnesses adds to the force of the testimony.” (, p. 511) Thus, the fact that the anointed are represented by two witnesses means that their witnessing work will be done with authority and the matter will be firmly established.
6 It should be noted here that this revision came 10 years after Robert King had already published the same interpretation of the feet of iron and clay.
7 For a discussion of how British Imperialism continues down to this day, refer to the subheading "The Growth of America and the Formation of an Alliance" and Appendix C
8 See chapter 15, “London—Satan’s Throne,” in King’s book for a detailed account of how exactly the British Empire transformed itself into an informal financial oligarchy intent on dominating the world.
9 Note: This information is presented in this heading, “An Initial Fulfillment of Prophecy” as is, with minimal interpretive commentary. We will draw parallels between the initial and final fulfillments of prophecy where appropriate during our presentation of the final fulfillment in the heading “The Scrolls Unsealed.”
11 Note that the financial oligarchy is referred to as the “sons” of the king of the north. Indeed, the big banking families of London and Wall-Street did inherit their financial system from the formal British Empire. In this sense, then, those who comprise the informal oligarchy today are the “sons” of the formal British Empire and have since also inherited the title of “king of the north”
12 Note that Daniel 11:40a says that the king of the south engages in a pushing with the king of the north “in the time of the end.” Reasoning on the fact that the king of the south will have been crippled to the point of death by the time the “time of the end” begins, the phrase “time of the end” in this verse must be referring not only to the actual time of the end, but also events leading up to the time of the end—that is, it includes events immediately preceding the establishment of God’s Kingdom
13 Daniel 11:2 calls the king of the north the “fourth one.” Although the Watchtower identifies these 4 kings to stand up against Greece as Cyrus the Great, Cambyses II, Darian I, and Xerxes I (, pp. 212-213), the king of the north isn’t the 4th king to stand up against the king of the south in a literal sense. Rather, the king of the north is the 4th king in type. In other words, because it was the fourth king to go up against Greece in a literal sense that actually succeeded, so the king of the north is the symbolic “fourth one.” If we wanted to go deeper into the meaning of the number 4, the Watchtower identifies the number 4 with “universalness.” (, p. 512) Since the king of the north will have dominion over the entire earth, his government can, in that sense, be considered “universal.” But the important point to focus on here is that the king of the north defeats antitypical Greece, that is, America.
16 Or, army
17 The term “christ” literally means “chosen one.” The fact that Jesus used the term “false christs,” does not necessarily mean he is referring solely to those who purport to be “Christ” in the same way that he is “Christ,” but this term can also be applied to those who claim to have been chosen to fulfill a certain purpose.
18 From the establishment of the kingdom to the placing of the disgusting thing
19 God’s judgement on his own house, the time from when the disgusting thing is put in place to the end of the appointed time of the nations
20 God’s judgment on all the nations and Satan’s entire system, from the end of the appointed time of the nations to the end of Armageddon
21 As King mentions, this financial system was originally instituted in Venice, later transplanted in Great Britain, and subsequently was transformed into the London-centered “Wall Street-IMF global financial system.” (, p. 216)
22 A fortress is a symbol of security in this prophecy. The king of the north’s security is his money. Since the assets of Wall Street are a part of the king of the north’s system, they can be said to be a part of his fortress.
23 See the subheading “The Scrolls Unsealed” for a detailed description of how the 1st century disgusting thing set a pattern for our time in this regard
25 Chapters 12 through 14 of Revelation are discussed in depth throughout this work and will not be rehashed here.
26 It might seem like the trumpet blasts are a prelude of the seven plagues since at Revelation 8:8 it says that only a third of the sea became blood; however, keep in mind, that the last trumpet blast signals the transfer of authority over the earth to Christ’s kingdom (Revelation 11:15) and also the Sanctuary of God is opened up after the seventh trumpet blast (Revelation 11:19). Since the sanctuary of God has been opened up, at this point, the anger of God must have already been brought to a finish, hence, the plagues cannot occur after the seventh trumpet blast.
